After listening to Jeff Lindsay read his own books I was disapointed with Nick Landrum. His pauses are to long, they cause me to check my player to see if it is still working. He does not put enough feeling into the side characters or even Dexter. As a straight reading it is ok? As a performance it lacks. Out of the 400 or so audio books I have, this narrator is near the bottom.

SIx months have passed since Anita Blake has seen either Jean-Claude or Richard. Six months of celibacy. Six months of indecision. Six months of danger. For her body carries the marks of both vampire and werewolf, and until the triumvirate is consummated, all three remain vulnerable. But when a kidnapper targets innocents that Anita has sworn to protect, she needs all the help she can get. In an earth-shattering union, Anita, Jean-Claude, and Richard merge the marks - and melt into one another.

When Earth herself lay under siege by an enemy humankind could not defeat, mankind undertook one last throw of the dice: Operation Ark. Earth's final colonizing expedition was meant to build a new civilization, on a planet so distant even the Gbaba might never find it, and without the high-tech infrastructure whose emissions might betray its location.

This is meant to be the first of 3 books (I think I read it in EW). Weber is normally fast and 3 books turn into 5. I think his style and writing have improved since his "Honor" books.

I just finished this book, the third in the series and it was the best 40+ hours of audio book I've ever listened to. I have listens to well over a hundred audio books and all 3 of these books stand out as the very best. 110 hours and I could do it all over again. I will wait and check each day until the next book to ready. Powerful fantasy written for adults.

In a time long forgotten, a preternatural event threw the seasons off balance. In a land where summers can last decades and winters a lifetime, trouble is brewing. As the cold returns, sinister forces are massing beyond the protective wall of the kingdom of Winterfell. To the south, the king's powers are failing, with his most trusted advisor mysteriously dead and enemies emerging from the throne's shadow.

I read these books as they came out. They are a masterpiece of modern fantasy writing. Martin has created a vast and colorful world that is for removed from Tolkien. There have been many good fantasy novels or groups or novels but most are in some way a Tolkien descendent. Martin?s books are powerful and original. They are not for the timid or uncommitted reader in much the same way as Herbert or Tolkien.
I could not wait the listen to these books. I have to disagree about the reader. I was a little disappointed at first that it was not one of the readers I am more familiar with but after an hour or so I began to hear the way Roy Dotrice create an atmosphere that really fit the novel.

  • Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 51 mins)

Finding logical inconsistencies, factual errors, and doublespeak wherever he looks, Al Franken takes on and destroys the myth of liberal bias in the media, hoists the Bush White House on its own rhetorical petard, and punctures the mean-spirited sanctimony of such media darlings as Ann Coulter and Bill O'Reilly. Timely, provocative, unfailingly honest, and always uproarious, Lies is sure to raise hackles and spark hilarity inside the Beltway and from sea to shining sea.

Al Franken is the first liberal with both the wit and sharpness of mind to compete with Rush. This book is both funny and to the point. I listen to fiction most of the time and have heard around a hundred books. This is the first one I have reviewed. I highly recommend this book.
