This somehow got on my recommended list and I am still wondering how it happened. I am so thoroughly disgusted with this book I've asked for my money back. The narrator sounds like a very young teenager - even though the heroine is supposed to be in her early 20s which makes the trashy content sound even more vulgar. And the heroine has nothing redeeming - she's clumsy (which might be endearing if there was anything else interesting about her) she's dim, simpering and cannot say anything worthwhile about the man she's falling for other than how 'absolutely gorgeous' he is. Come on! That statement alone is supposed to be enough for the listener to empathize and root for the couple to get together? This one-dimensional love storyline has the two-fold result of making me disdain the weak female character and be repulsed by the male love interest that is nothing but an egotistical pretty face. The line that finally made me stop listening was when the heroine announced to herself "He likes to hurt women. And I want him to do it to me." Ugh. I was so furiously rolling my eyes through most of the rediculous unfolding narration that I could barely walk and listen at the same time.
The story started off a bit weak - the character was trying to hard with cliche humor (filled with one-liners my Dad would be proud of) but once the author drops some of that 'trying too hard' approach and just tells the story, it gets pretty interesting. I like the main character and the spin on her 'abilities'. And the supporting characters have potential. I'm interested in listening to more of this series.
