"Narrarator and storyline marginal..."
I had discovered this book as a recommendation for a Robyn Carr alternative, but the narrator sounded like she was recording a sex show rather than reading a chick lit book. Her voice the entire time, regardless of character was just whispery, husky, and overly sensual for no apparent reason. It was distracting.
The storyline was marginal, and there was too much chit chat, and overly "drawn" characters.
Disappointing listen. I found myself drifting off several times and losing focus.
"Great period piece"
I very much enjoyed this period piece by Julie, combining a great story of different world being thrown together, add some intrigue and drama, strong, believable characters and you have another great 5 star piece. Recommend highly!
"Fantastic book!"
Truly enjoyed the narration tremendously, and that, coupled with the great story line of how the heroine saves the day, make this another great period piece by Julie/Susan!
"Another Highlander classic!"
Loved the heroine, her gentle giant of a Laird and surrounding characters to this tale. Another great period piece by Julie that is very well narrated. Recommend highly!
"LOOOOOVVVEEDDD IT!!"
I had never listened or read anything from Julie before, but I am so happy I did! The narration is absolutely priceless. You can't believe how Susan can fluctuate from man to woman, from English to Scott - she is a master.
The story line kept me on the edge of every word, and the characters are wonderfully defined. This was a true pleasure to listen to and I think I am now hooked on Julie!
"Robotic narration, unplausable storyline"
I am a huge Debbie Macomber fan but the narration of this book killed it for me. She sounded very robotic and scripted, and the story line was just not realistic.
"Terrible naration, boring story, bad writing."
Disappointed. I was expecting more from this because it was recommended by Robyn Carr, but after two chapters I turned it off. #refundwouldbenice
"Cracking up! Another 5 star listen..."
I don't know what is better, the amazing Gabra Zackman narrating in her signature "Sophie Katz" voices, seamlessly transferring from character to character without missing a beat...or the whitty dialogue of both the primary story, and the chapter beginning quotes.
This book made me laugh out loud many times and it was a quick, fun listen that kept you guessing on who the villians were all throughout.
Definately recommend! Listen to them all if you haven't already, this one was worth the wait!
"ZZZZZZzzzzz"
I love Debbie but from the get go I couldn't get into this. The narrator is robotic and no differentiation between character voices. I listened for 2 hours and can barely tell you a thing. :o/
"Great book! Excellent narrarator!"
I was surprisingly entranced by the analytical, uber intelligent heroin in the story and the charming aw shucks demeanor of the Sheriff. Great story and enjoyed the narrator and the story line. It was nice not to see the twists coming at you!
