Ever since the gods of Ancient Egypt were unleashed in the modern world, Carter Kane and his sister, Sadie, have been in trouble. As descendants of the House of Life, the Kanes have some powers at their command, but the devious gods haven’t given them much time to master their skills at Brooklyn House, which has become a training ground for young magicians. And now their most threatening enemy yet—the chaos snake Apophis—is rising.

Would you try another book from Rick Riordan and/or Kevin R. Free and Katherine Kellgren ?

The first book had promise and was interesting. Not much clever or interesting things happen, and the female narrator has a voice so shrill and unpleasant, I had to practically mute the recording to deal with it.
Boring, and uninteresting, whining teens. Rick Riordan really missed the boat with this, I will never listen to a reading by Katherine Kellgren, again, I think

What could Rick Riordan have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Have better narrators, and do something besides have the female complain.

Would you be willing to try another one of Kevin R. Free and Katherine Kellgren ???s performances?

Kevin R. Free is OK. Katherine Kellgren is dreadful.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Throne of Fire?

    Most of them.

    Any additional comments?

Will not read this series or listen to another book in it.

At the tender age of 14, Livia Drusilla overhears her father and fellow aristocrats plotting the assassination of Julius Caesar. Proving herself an astute confidante, she becomes her father’s chief political asset - and reluctantly enters into an advantageous marriage to a prominent military officer. Her mother tells her, "It is possible for a woman to influence public affairs," reminding Livia that - while she possesses a keen sense for the machinations of the Roman senate - she must also remain patient and practical.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

This might be good for a 13 year old girl who wants a romance with a little history thrown in to give it a plot and motives for the characters. The book covers only her life at about 15, and then pretty much ends after a few years of being Empress with Octavian. Insipid characterizations. No feeling of being in Rome.

What was most disappointing about Phyllis T. Smith’s story?

How shallow Livia and Octavian are. Like 16 year olds.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

It was all right, given the material.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from I Am Livia?

So much with her first husband and her very early years with Octavius, with no development of her subsequent life where, indeed, lots of people died who interfered with her.

    Any additional comments?

    No.

Within this elite, dangerous world, Richard St. Vier is the undisputed master, as skilled as he is ruthless--until a death by the sword is met with outrage instead of awe, and the city discovers that the line between hero and villain can be altered in the blink of an eye.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Having some action, and less talk.

What do you think your next listen will be?

    Grimoire series.

Did the narrators do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

All right. Background sounds were annoying. They were OK, but they had pretty much just boring trite conversations. Nobody stood out as a character, and you didn't wonder what happened next. You wondered if anything was going to be interesting.

What character would you cut from Swordspoint?

Can't even remember who was who.

    Any additional comments?

What good is it to have such a complicated cast, if the story goes no where and is so boring?

Would you try another book from Kim Newman and/or William Gaminara?

William Gaminara was excellent. Book was dull.

Has Anno Dracula turned you off from other books in this genre?

    No.

What does William Gaminara bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

    Great voice changes. Good pacing.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Moments of good world building. But mostly tedious discussions.

    Any additional comments?

    There are much better books.

I think we should get our money back. Dany's voice is so jarring, I hated to listen to her chapters.
