Could not put it down, listened every chance I had, on my Zen at work, driving, eating, where ever! Not too long or laborious as some of the reviews say. It all had to be said to understand the work, without all the descriptions it would have been hard to see the places in your mind. I hope her next is just as good. I will keep this one. In a few years may read again.
This one not as good as the first but still great! Its always takes the middle book to pull things together for the ending. Still not a children's book, and yes, the author does have an agenda, about/against God, but that is okay, its his book and he can write what he wants. All said, its a book, read it, enjoy it for the story, which is simply wonderful. Parallel worlds! I hope! I will be looking for that little window.
Wonderful read! I couldn't put it down, am now on book three in as many weeks, but it is not for children. I have to agree, the author is trying to make a point about his beliefs, which is fine, just not for children. I called my son immediately and explained to him that his 10 year old should not be allowed to read the books, but if you go on Pullman's website he says, clearly, he did not write the books for children. I personally found them enthralling. Such imagination! Can't wait to finish the last one so to see how it all turns out. I hope the movie isn't ruined by Hollywood. A couple of the scenes I have seen so far in the previews are not in the book.
If you are a Jane Austen fan you will really enjoy this book. The talk from that era is the same. Nothing grizzly here, just enjoyment. More of a woman's read I think. A quiet, leisurely listen.
