Insights into baseball and building a winning team.
One Last Strike
While a very good baseball book, it also offers valuable insights into leadership and an appreciation of how every individual can play an important role in the sucess of any team, organization or business. The fact that it involved colorful characters from Yadi, Albert, Carp and Freeze; plus that it told the story of the greatest baseball season in the history of baseball (well, at least from a Cardinal perspective), made it extremely enjoyable.
Engaging Southern Story
the old testament
the right tone and everything else
This was a far better experience than I expected. I thought it would be too dense and difficult to be enjoyable. Perhaps I am just at a point in my life where I can appreciate a work of this quality and depth.
The read by Will Patton was simply amazing and confirms in my mind that he is the best.
Another great contribution to the living history genre. Of course the macbre tale of Dr. H.H. Holmes, charmer, swindler & polite serial killer was strange and fascinating, but so was what was occurring at this time in architecture, technology and America. What stood out the most about Holmes is his ability to endear himself to most all his victims promising them extraordinary things right before he murdered them, most of them meeting their fate without even knowing what a monster he was.
In Cold Blood and In the Garden of Beasts
The detective putting together seemingly unconnected bits of information on Holmes.
"I was born with the devil in me. I could not help the fact that i was a murderer, no more than a poet can help the inspiration to sing."
It should be made into a movie. However i would imagine that recreation of the Chicago World's Fair would be quite expensive.
