  • Those Across the River

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 5 mins)
    • By Christopher Buehlman
    • Narrated By Mark Bramhall
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Failed academic Frank Nichols and his wife, Eudora, have arrived in the sleepy Georgia town of Whitbrow, where Frank hopes to write a history of his family's old estate - the Savoyard Plantation - and the horrors that occurred there. At first, the quaint, rural ways of their new neighbors seem to be everything they wanted. But there is an unspoken dread that the townsfolk have lived with for generations. A presence that demands sacrifice.

    Charles says: "Major Sound Issues"
    "A Perfect Horror Story!"
What did you love best about Those Across the River?

Buehlman's novel is subtle leading you up to an interesting finale. Imagine your worst fears made trivial by a terror that exceeds your imagination.
    I absolutely loved this story!

Who was your favorite character and why?

The characters have great duality and the era is an interesting one- post WWI.

    Any additional comments?

The only negative I can report is the technical editing of the audio. The last word of of the last sentence in each chapter is clipped. I think the recording studio should be notified. You do understand what is being said -it is just my opinion that this causes a sense of abruptness the story would do better without.

  • The Lost Gate: Mithermages, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (12 hrs and 21 mins)
    • By Orson Scott Card
    • Narrated By Stefan Rudnicki, Emily Janice Card
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Danny North knew from early childhood that his family was different - and that he was different from them. While his cousins were learning how to create the things that commoners called fairies, ghosts, golems, trolls, werewolves, and other such miracles that were the heritage of the North family, Danny worried that he would never show a talent, never form an "outself"....

joshua says: "Card doing what he does best."
"A bumpy start but it smooths out"

Carrying you right along and making you smile at the quips and characters dark humor. in my opinion the most interesting character is Wad.
I'm ordering the next book in the series.

  • Gone Girl: A Novel

    • UNABRIDGED (19 hrs and 11 mins)
    • By Gillian Flynn
    • Narrated By Julia Whelan, Kirby Heyborne
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

It is Nick and Amy Dunne's fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick's clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn't doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media - as well as Amy's fiercely doting parents - the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he's definitely bitter - but is he really a killer?

Teddy says: "Demented, twisted, sick and I loved it!"
    "One Word......WOW!"

This is one of those rare tales that will leave you with your mouth hanging open at the end. It has more twists and turns than a pretzel with great character development and brilliant dual narration.

It left me with goosebumps! Really!

Without a doubt it is one of the best stories I have listened to in YEARS. Please give it a try if you like suspense and are not afraid to take a look at humanities dark side.

I have listened to over 500 stories in the last 4 years and this is by far one of the best! Top ten!

  • The Walking Dead: Rise of The Governor

    • UNABRIDGED (10 hrs and 50 mins)
    • By Robert Kirkman, Jay Bonansinga
    • Narrated By Fred Berman
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Following in the footsteps of the New York Times best-selling graphic novels and the record-breaking new television show, this debut novel in a trilogy of original Walking Dead books chronicles the back story of the comic book series greatest villain, The Governor.

    David says: "Well....okay...I guess"
    "Great Zombie Story Genre"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

If the friend were into horror stories I would definately recommend this. A good read, hard to stop listening.

What did you like best about this story?

The character development was better than normally seen in many horror stories. This story is not about happy endings!

Which character – as performed by Fred Berman – was your favorite?

I think he was best as Philip Blake- gruff and angry, but also great as the polar opposite, the brother, so meek and lacking in confidence.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes but why give it away in a review?

  • The Good House

    • UNABRIDGED (21 hrs and 37 mins)
    • By Tananarive Due

Tananarive Due, author of The Living Blood won the American Book Award and is praised as Stephen King's equal by Publishers Weekly. In The Good House, Due sets a story of ancient powers and modern retribution in a small Pacific Northwest town. When a young woman returns to her grandmother's empty mansion, she is pitted against demonic forces that have poisoned her family for generations.

    Rebecca says: "FABULOUS!"
    "Superb Thriller"

I rarely take time to write a review, however this book merits a review and more.
The characters are multi-dimensional and the story will keep you curious to the end.
Tananarive Due is an excellent author- I am looking forward to her next story!
