In a time long forgotten, a preternatural event threw the seasons off balance. In a land where summers can last decades and winters a lifetime, trouble is brewing. As the cold returns, sinister forces are massing beyond the protective wall of the kingdom of Winterfell. To the south, the king's powers are failing, with his most trusted advisor mysteriously dead and enemies emerging from the throne's shadow.

I downloaded Game of Thrones because I had read the comparisons to Tolkien's Lord of the Rings. There are some similarities -- both are set in fictional lands with a rich history, both have dragons, both have good guys and bad guys.

There the similarities end. Game of Thrones is about the rich and powerful and politics. The bad guys cheat to win and the little guys get trampled. No hobbits saving the world, no long lost heir to the throne rising to the challenge and uniting the kingdom.

Maybe that changes in the later books, but I don't care enough to find out.

When an unexpected inheritance elevates her family to the ranks of the aristocracy, Amelia Hathaway discovers that tending to her younger sisters and wayward brother was easy compared to navigating the intricacies of the ton. Even more challenging: the attraction she feels for the tall, dark, and dangerously handsome Cam Rohan.

This is an ABRIDGED version of this book and not UNABRIDGED as advertised.

    Very disappointing.
