"Pleasant surprise"
An excellent whodunnit. the other reviews do a good job with the details. I just had to add my two cents praising this well written mystery. It's a keeper and I will definitely look forward to more from Mr.Freeman.
"Fantastic"
I will miss traveling with Toru Okada through his strange world. This books stays with you for awhile. The narrator, Rupert Degas, was great; I even checked to see if there weren't two readers: one male and the other female. I look forward to listening to more from Murakami.
"Silly Accents"
Despite the accent which at first makes the characters sound silly,(you get used to it)the story is engaging and the characters interesting. I found this book very entertaining.
"Over rated"
Very little new insight into the causes of school shootings. Nothing you haven't heard before. The bulk of the book is spent on the relationship between two self-absorbed characters; the judge and her daughter. Neither of whom I had much sympathy for. The book is long and unimpressive and too long a wait for the surprise ending.
"Puzzling Mystery"
A good listen with a sympathetic character. Best listened to in long segments to keep track of all the characters and plot twists. trying to listen in short spurts just resulted in my backtracking. give this one a try.
"loose ends"
While this story has many intriguing mysteries, most are not fulfilled. Some of the main character's experiences are surreal; creating a doubt as to whether these are actual or something more mysterious. Unfortuanately we are not treated to further developments nor conclusions. At one point I began to wonder if anything was going to happen as the pace of the book began to lag. I was waiting for some of the questions to be answered. The punch of the story is at the very end and very real. I'd check out other books by this auther, but would read reviews first.
"Entertaining"
This is definitely a great who done it. The characters are interesting with all their imperfections. A great plot with some good twists, and a satisfying ending. I'd recommend this for some entertaining listening.
"Hang In there"
It took me a little while to adjust to the fact that this book would be told in the first person in the form of a journal, but soon I found myself absorbed in this man's dilemma. I started to care how things would turn out for the characters and to wonder about the truth of the murder mystery. Stick with it through the beginning and the story builds. I'll look for other books by this author.
"Very Entertaining"
I really enjoyed this well written suspense. It's easy to symphathize with the characters' predictament and the story kept my interest right to the end. Would love more like this one.
"Thoroughly Enjoyable"
This is a well constructed novel with complex characters. I found the way the author developed the plot, through a series of snap shots, fun, sort of like an adventure game. Each shot contains a clue taking Harry closer to the truth. There are many mysteries, both past and present, to solve in this one. In the end, Harry prooves to be; not too shabby afterall! Satisfying entertainment.
