I wouldn't listen again, because that's not something I do.
I think Caroline Lee's narration was excellent.
At nearly 20 hours long - it's not possible to listen in one sitting. It is about 10 hours too long. It really didn't need to be this long and drawn out. I would have given it 5 stars, but it was just toooooo long!
Like I said above, I liked the story and the ending very much. However, getting to the end was very long and drawn out.
While iI enjoyed this first book in the series, I'm becoming bored with the paranormal genre. They all seem the same. Boy meets Girl, one of them "has a secret life",they fight to be together, etc, etc.
Marian the Librarian was such a surprise character. Macon Ravenwood came across as a cartoon character.
The narrator did a good job, but with most narrators, they just don't hit the opposite sex spot-on.
If you liked Twilight . . .
I love the freedom of Audible books. I love to read and with Audible I can "read" in the car or waiting to pick up the Grands from school, even grocery shopping!
I was in the mood for a nice Christmas story, and that is exactly what I got!
No, this is my first one.
Enjoyable short story with a happy ending!
I would rate Defending Jacob in my top ten Audible books.
This is my first Grover Gardner narration. At first, I didn't think I would like his voice, but shortly after, I warmed to the timber of his voice and it was perfect. He sounded very fatherly.
As the mother of a grown son and grandmother to a fourteen year old boy I cringed at the the thought of a parent going through a terror like this. I could relate closer with Andy, the dad, more so than the mother, Laurie.
Wow, how far would you go to protect your child?
I felt slightly emotionally paralyzed at then end.
Magical, romantic, Oh My!
Carrie McClelland was my favorite character.
I thought that Rosalyn Landor did an outstanding job narrating this story.
The Winter Sea is the perfect title for this story.
This book was one of our Book Club choices. It was my first Susanna Kearsley book. It is exactly the sort of Gothic, Historical Fiction I enjoy reading. I was hooked immediately and have read or will read all her books. I have even preordered her The Firebird for release in June 2013 in the US.
Highly recommend all her books.
Interesting quirky characters
Nick Dunne was my favorite character. He was the one whose character we were meant to be drawn to.
While I knew in my heart that Nick didn't kill Amy, there were many chapters where I would bet he wished he had! I think this will be a great movie.
Having listened to The Winter Sea by Susanna Kearsley, I couldn't wait to listen to more of her books. She has a true gift.
The two stories flowed gently. There were no harsh transitions.
Nicola Barber was an excellent narrator.
I didn't want to rush through the book. I enjoyed listening to the story in shorter segments. I wanted to savor the story.
I highly recommend Susanna Kearsley's books. I have also read The Winter Sea and Mariana. I can't wait to read all her books.
Susanna Kearsley's is one of my new favorite authors.
I was looking forward to listening to Dr. Ron Paul's book, but I couldn't get past the narrator.
The narrator was very monotone. I couldn't finish listening.
I really wanted to love this book. I will buy the hard copy.
I wish that Dr. Paul had narrated his book.
I have recommended this book to friends.
Finding out that Pasquale went back to find his first love and marry her and raise his family.
Eduardo Ballerini did a wonderful job of narrating. Except for the voice of Dee/Debra.
Pasquale was my favorite character. He had such beautiful dreams and a strong sense of responsibility.
Dee's son was a real disappointment.
Engrossing and Tragic
I loved all the individual characters, but I think that Mr. Hosokawa sticks in my mind the most. A business man who had little time for his family, he was the most changed by these events.
Anna Fields did such an amazing narration of this book. She brought life to all the characters, male and female in many foreign languages. Amazing!
Gen was the most memorable for me. He brought guests and terrorists together in a way that would not have been possible without his interpretations.
Read/listen to this book. You won't be sorry. I listened to State of Wonder for my book club and I enjoyed it so much I wanted to read another Ann Patchett book. I chose this one for it's unusual premise. I enjoyed it thoroughly.
