Wow, I don't listen to many young adults books but I glad I stumbled over this series. It was completely awesome and just addicting as Hunger Games. Divergent is a future society where the population is divided up into five groups of factions based on societal virtue. Abnegation ( the selfless ), Candor ( the honest ), Dauntless ( the brave ), Amity ( the peaceful ), Erudite ( the intelligent ). Beatrice Prior is an Abnegation born faction member, at the age of 16 one gets to pick which virtue they value most and can change factions. Both Beatrice and her brother Caleb surprise everyone by leaving they native factions and we journey through Beatrice training in her new faction and watch become the famous Tris. While training Tris comes to realize there is something wrong with the society's set up of the five factions.
Beyond Credit worthy!
I agree, You don't want to like this book, its a dark and disturbing subject matter but it is very well written. The books bring out a huge range of emotions of being a captive in a human trafficking ring, going through training as a pleasure slave and falling for her captor. No one understanding Olivia, its just a great story and I would like to see a spin off with the two federal agents.
I loved the start to the series, I thought it was awesome and something new to the PNR genre. Everyone else seems to be doing vampire and werewolves and cyborgs were definitely different until you get through books 2-6. The whole series is pretty much the same story over again just exchange out the cyborg names and the human female names and its the same plot line over, and over again. Cyborg man by unusual circumstances runs into small human female ( I mean small none of the women are taller then 5'3!) and wants to keep her and start a family unit. Now the last installment Taunting Krell was the best by far because the author did things a little different, I hope she continues mixing it up and I hope she'll put a tall human female in the series as well.
It's just plain awful. You can predict the plot line from a mile away, very little character development. The main character Princess Elwytha is suppose to be some sort of warrior princess trained in several weapons, yet it the book she is portrayed as a whiny, immature, slow witted teenager that is pretty much always crying, which is a complete oxymoron to a person with combat skills. The narrator made the story even worse, it was like the story was being narrated by a female William Shatner, just terrible! Huge pass on this one.
Wow! it was an epic unexpected end to the trilogy. I think I am still in shock. I really can't say anymore, if you listened to the first two books then you are obviously getting this one and stay up all night ( like I did) listening to it. Emma Galvin you did an amazing job, you are my favorite female narrator.
Good Grief! I don't think I would ever come across a series that has too much sex it in, but this trilogy sure does. There is so much sex I feel like I need to take a pregnancy test! Too much sex can be a bad thing, if there is too much fornication it loses its appeal and it becomes nothing special and a very mundane act. The over abundance of sex was just too distracting for the minimal plot, this really only should have been one book instead of 3....but there is so much sex that it became a trilogy ( TA-DA). This last book was also a recap of Korum and Mia's differences from the first book. So if you are just in the mood to watch mindless Lorno on HBO or late night Skinamax on TV then this series is for you. For me I like the plot to be the main dish and the sex a side dish or dessert....and this stew needs more meat in it.
Drank a lot of caffeine today because I was up all night listening ( not smart when going a school field to the zoo the next day ) But I managed. This book was exciting and intriguing, I was never bored. I think Outlander fan's would love this series cause I sure do and can't wait for the next one. Credit Worthy all the way.
Please tell me I don't have to wait another year for the next book!!! Ends on a cliff hanger! not saying anything if your a Kresley Cole fan your getting the book anyways! ...And yes I am surprised what Kresley Cole got away with it the cave scene ;-) but appreciated anyways. Eagerly awaiting the next installment!
Everyone is still after Evie! Russell her soul mate wants her back because their souls belongs to each other. Evie's angel Reed is equivalent to being her husband is fighting to keep her and Brennas the faery vampire king is hunting her down. Reinforcements are called in to keep Evie safe from Brennas and it turns out to be Tao the highest ranking seraphim angel in paradise and he also happens to be Evie's father. Evie is uncertain in meeting her father until he shows up with his cronies and it turns out Evie has met him and his cronies before. Evie starts having flash backs of being in paradise and in love but the love wasn't Russell or Reed, she doesn't know what to think about that. The book is action packed and Evie is becoming a leader among the angels that might even rival her father's command. The plot thickens and I need the next book!
I do like the new spin on the classic story book tales. Cinder is a futuristic cyborg in Beijing that is our Cinderella. In Scarlet it brings in another storybook character of little red riding hood with the big bad wolf and her missing grandmother. Creative as it is the 2nd book splits off into two plots of Scarlet trying to find her grandmother and Cinder trying to escape, so you bounce back between two points of views, which I'm not a big fan of. I was much happier when Scarlet and Cinder met up and joined forces and the main character spot went back to Cinder. I absolutely LOVE Cinder's android companion Kiko, she is hilarious and I want one.
I am curious to see what princess or story book character appears next...I have a feeling it will be snow white, but we have to wait and see.
I would say the main character Juliette is completely living Rogue's life from X-men ( with the same super power). The setting sounds like a possible near future with a V for Vendetta vibe. A new strict and overbearing establishment has complete control over society on a global scale, where unauthorized art, books ect. are destroyed and unruly people are incarcerated or institutionalized . Much like X-men Rogue...I mean Juliette finds an underground society made up of special people with different gifts as well, but her gift is still the most dangerous gift of all. Juliette fears being used as a weapon by either side. The underground society has a professor X named Castle that also has the same super power as professor X but he can walk. Juliette has two love interest and surprisingly both guys can touch her ( for the most part ) and the two guys (Adam & Aaron) are of course enemies much like Wolverine and Cyclops vying for Juliette's love. Oh and I forgot to mention there is a totally Darth Vader like character ( Anderson ) who is the head of the evil establishment and there is a totally "Luke, I am your Father" moment as well. I still loved it! The books were very entertaining and I am looking forward to the next book. Juliette is finally mad and is ready to fight back and its getting exciting :-)
