I have read all of Brad Meltzer's other books and this was my 1st time to listen to an audio version. Then when I realized that the narriator was Scott Brick (The Company) it was like icing on the cake. Other reviewers had said they thought Brad was too wordy but I like that about his work. Brads stories catch me quickly and carry me along with each twist and turn of the character and the story.... I like that. Great listen!!!
I was afraid this was a rehash of the Warren reports but it isn't. Narriated by Mr. O'Reilly's recognizable voice, this starts from the beginning of Jack's political career to after the shooting (and we all know how this ends). And keeping with Mr. O'Reilly's style, he includes interesting historical tidbits about the people and places around Jack and the Kennedy's. As a good companion book, you might want to consider Jacqueline Kennedy: Historic Conversations on the Life with John F. Kennedy. Read it!! You'll like it!!
I wasn't sure I would like this book and much to my surprise I really enjoyed it! I read a review where one person said the accent and pronunciations were terrible but I found that since I didn't know French, I didn't care! And if I were trying to read the book, I would be lost with the French so listening was the best way to go. After reading this, I now have a desire to visit France and taste the cuisine. This is not a waste of time.....
After reading the other reviews I thought this would be a fun read... but I found this just wasn't my cup of tea. The terminology and story is more attuned to those of the younger set; those text messaging cell phoners, hackers, gamers... anything that includes non-personal interaction. No, I'm not an old fogey but whether SiFi (which I like) or not, I do like some sort of human relationship in my reading genre. Old fashion of me I know.... but this is my dime and my opinion.... so there.
After I first started listening, I thought this was a guy-book (vs chick-book) because it had lots of references to guy noises and guy troubles. But I stayed with it and it turned out to be a good story so I would have to say I recommend it.
I absolutely love this book and can't wait for the unabridged sequel. Its a great story full of pratically everything. And yes, some will call it a chick-book but who cares. Additionally, I cannot say enough about the reader... it is all just great and I hated for it to end.
