"documentary writing"
Insights onto the lives of Chinese in the USA. Detailed research. A fascinating story of a family tree. But I really missed Lisa See's enchanting language which she is so good with! Of course, one has to remember that this is more like a documentary work of literature, not a novel.
"inspirational"
It's a pretty cute, entertaining audio-book. While it does contains seeds of practical advice, it seemed to be more inspirational and encouraging to me than anything else. A nice listen for when you are tired of writing and want to know you are not alone.
"change the story!"
Change the story in your head and stop believing all the lies you have told yourself, and other people have told you. Believe in light and love and kindness; pray to be shown the way. A very inspirational book!!!
"boring"
Perhaps, I had wrong expectations. But there were many times I wanted to drop the book and find something more engaging, curious and uplifting to listen to. I have not read the praised "Middlesex" by the same author, so I cannot blame his style - yet! :)
"loved it"
Loved the language, the narrator, the story and the characters. I am going to listen to this book once again, I loved it so much!
"it might happen...."
Sad, disturbing, borderline scary. What would I do?... But we human can adjust to just about anything... and there will always be love and the quest for belonging, for a touch and for an identity. Great, thought-provoking book. I wish the ending was more revealing...
"WHAT DO YOU DO WITH YOUR DREAM"
A simple, honorable life of living the gift and the dream. I so wish Charlotte lived a long life: for her newly found happiness, for her devoted husband, for her five deceased siblings, for her old father and for us, enchanted readers of her masterfully written books.
I am off to listen to "Shirley", the book everyone in the family admired and laughed at, as read in Charlotte's diary.

"~it's a [very] long story~"
The idea is cute, but the story is too long and filled with plenty of unnecessary details. I liked both Diana and Matthew, but they never fully come to life for me. The ending is abrupt though the story was dragging itself for about 20 hours... But it looks like it's the first book in the series. I doubt I will listen to the following books, though I wish the heroes the best on their journey and the quest for the right to love freely.

"invest in SELF"
Do you want to be the best YOU there is? Remember, there are unlimited choices and you make them every SECOND of your life! It does sound scary... there are so many chances to spoil everything!... thus, you want this very short (one hour!) and very uplifting speed-putting-you-on-the-right-tracks guide from the most energetic, smart and charming Robin Sharma!
Basically: know what you want, and invest in creating the best possibilities for achieving it! Invest in your physical, spiritual, professional, personal development: and it all will pay you back immensely.
Lovely audio book; there was a time in my life when I listened to it several times a week! Just Robin's voice, full of optimism and encouragement, made wanna do my best to become the best me I could manage at the time! ...and I have to give myself a pat on the shoulder: I know I am doing if not my VERY best, then the next to it, and you know what, perhaps it is time to listen-listen-listen to the World Class Life again and again!

"seeing with your heart"
I was rating this book five stars while it was still downloading from Audible.com. It is not only that I has such a good feeling about it and of course knew that the debut novel by a lady who grew up in a family with colored help in Mississippi enjoyed mostly rave reviews and undeniable success (there is now a movie, too!). No, I read a couple of quotes and heard a short audio abstract. I knew I would fall in love with the narrative, and yes m'am, I sure did.
There are moments that will make you laugh, moments that will make you angry and moments that will make your eyes shiny with tears. It is a book about Life and about our place in it and about choices we are to make every day: how to behave, what to accept and what to try to change.
And once you have done all that you felt you should have, not much is left but to pick up the traces of your life and go on following your heart: "You got nothing left here but enemies in the Junior League and a mama that's gonna drive you to drink. You done burned ever bridge there is. And you ain't never gone get another boyfriend in this town and everbody know it. So don't walk your white butt to New York, run it."
Run your butt to get the Audible copy of the book. I says so.
