When a successful New York lawyer suddenly disappears without a trace, neither his wife nor his daughter Julia has any idea where he might be - until they find a love letter he wrote many years ago to a Burmese woman they have never heard of. Intent on solving the mystery and coming to terms with her father’s past, Julia decides to travel to the village where the woman lived. There she uncovers a tale of unimaginable hardship, resilience, and passion that will reaffirm the listener’s belief in the power of love to move mountains.

If you could sum up The Art of Hearing Heartbeats in three words, what would they be?

Sendker is able to take you to a world of true beauty. A beautiful relationship blossoms and the descriptive qualities are wonderful. This book captures and paints pictures of life without sight. Stellar.

With a career, a boyfriend, and a loving family, Piper Kerman barely resembles the reckless young woman who delivered a suitcase of drug money 10 years ago. But that past has caught up with her. Convicted and sentenced to 15 months at the infamous federal correctional facility in Danbury, Connecticut, the well-heeled Smith College alumna is now inmate #11187-424 - one of the millions of women who disappear "down the rabbit hole" of the American penal system.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Yep

    Any additional comments?

I haven't seen the tv show so I am not comparing it to any other version of the book. But I loved this book. It kept me hooked the whole way through. Can't wait to see the series now that I've read the book.

Meet Dexter Morgan, a polite wolf in sheep’s clothing. He’s handsome and charming, but something in his past has made him abide by a different set of rules. He’s a serial killer whose one golden rule makes him immensely likeable: he only kills bad people. And his job as a blood splatter expert for the Miami police department puts him in the perfect position to identify his victims. But when a series of brutal murders bearing a striking similarity to his own style start turning up, Dexter is caught between being flattered and being frightened - of himself or some other fiend.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

The character development is lacking in the book and was surprised to say that the tv show is better.
