I've read several of Lisa Jackson's books...and this is as good or better than others. However, the narrator was very distracting. She never seemed to get the *flow* of the story, and seemed to struggle with the voice changes and the overall feeling of the story. I will listen to other books by Lisa Jackson, but not with this reader. She needs more coaching or maybe a director.
This was a great story, but the reader/readers ruined it -- some of the *emotion* was so rigid and forced, it became painful to listen. I stopped a couple of times and went to other books, but eventually finished it. In the future I'll avoid books listing these readers.
Although I'm aware of many of the details and the era in which this book was set, I found the perceptions and intrepretations by the author (of the characters & the time period) enjoyable and enlightening. I hope we hear more from this author.
I seldom find a book that is so captivating....I wish there was a sequel available.
