"Horrible"
I believe this is the first audio book that I've not been able to finish. I thought it was about a murder but then the story line would turn to the relationships of the psychic characters so I started thinking that it was really about the group of psychic detectives, then it went back to the murder. I couldn't figure out if the murder was an afterthought or what. Terrible narration, terrible story line, hideous characters. I would not recommend this book to anyone and would like to redeem my credit for another book entirely! Save your credits and your money.
"Painful at best"
Someone HAS to be honest with a writer who decides to narrate their own books. Not everyone is cut out to be a narrator and as good an author as Ann Rule is, she is absolutely NOT a narrator! I read this book quite a while ago and really enjoyed it, but listening to the abridged version read by Ann was painful. Save your money and buy the book, you will enjoy it so much more!
"Narration makes it hard to listen to"
Over the years I've read this book probably 4 or 5 times. I just love Julie Garwoods historical romances and was so pleased to find it available in audio format. I eagerly downloaded it and turned on my ipod only to hear a narrator that made the young heroine sound about 80 years old. The accent was over the top and I had difficulty picturing the hero who should have been "manly" but sounded like an old lady. Grrrrr.......
"Depressing"
My daughter raved about this book so I bought it. What a waste of a credit! She loved the magick and the poignancy of the story. I loved the magick and whimsy as well, but I found it extremely depressing. The main character is used, abused, neglected, cheated, etc. throughout the entire novel. I read to be entertained, not to feel as if I need to start an antidepressant and go for counseling. This is just not a book I would recommend.
"Awesome Stephen King..."
I had quit reading Stephen King for several years because his novels were coming out so fast and the quality of his writing seemed to decline instead of getting better. I felt that the publishers were pulling everything he'd ever written from dusty old closets just to get one more book on the market to cash in on his name. I decided to take a chance on "Under the dome" and was so glad I did! This is classic King and I've loved every minute of it. I had a pleasant surprise when I heard references to one of my favorite characters by an entirely different author, and used accurately! I stopped my ipod and thought "did he really say ____" (don't want to kill the surprise for you!). I am in the 5th download and do not want the story to end. Will it be too far out there for some people? Probably, but I read for pure entertainment and don't get my knickers in a knot when plot lines seem implausible. Is it good entertainment? Yes! Would I recommend it? Absolutely!
"Love it!"
This book draws you in and holds your interest until the very end. I enjoyed the shifts between the current storyline and the historical events of the Salem Witch trials of the late 1600's and how they eventually became tied together. The narrator did an excellent job and was easy to listen to. I would highly recommend this book!
"Keep an open mind"
I have really enjoyed reading Sylvia Browne's books but this was the first I've listened to. I had to keep an open mind and decide what information I wanted to keep and what I wanted to throw out because it didn't feel right to me. I like to get new perspectives to mull over and this certainly allowed me do that. I have one request of Sylvia- PLEASE do not narrate your own books! This one was thankfully narrated by someone other than Sylvia, but I have put off purchasing others because they are narrated by her. Love Sylvia as an author, but she does not have the voice to narrate.
