The story is colored by the prejudices of the time in which it is written. Even as the story examines prejudice and racism by depicting the interactions of a human and robot detective pair, the relationship between the man and his wife makes it clear this book was written in the 1950s. Having read many other Asimov stories, I never previously encountered such misogyny in his writing. Nonetheless, the idea of the caves of steel to which Manhattan has given rise is awe-striking for this current Manhattanite. And in this age of technology, robots of the sort imagined by Asimov are closer than ever. While this story sometimes seemed silly and predictable in its writing, the ideas which provide the setting for this story are remarkable, and fun to think about.
