"Very very slow..."
I went by all these nice reviews, compared to the "Eye of the World" but decided to get this one. I wish I hadn't. Comparing to "The Mistborn" series this book is so slow, I couldn't bare myself but to stop listening to it at around chapter 40. Either I am not old enough (37) or I just don't like the book's pace. I didn't like the narrator too much either. He only has couple of voices and everyone sounds like they are in their late 50s.
I like Mark Thompson most of all at this point after listening to about 12 different books since I started with audible 6 months ago. He does multiple voices very well, has a great pronounciation and when he reads you don't hear that his mouth is watering like Roy's does sometimes and like George Guidall's did in "American Assassin", but at least I was able to get immersed into the story. "Game of Thrones", its just very slow for me.
A lot of out of place chatter, characters just talk about nothing, plot is unveiling very slowly, almost seemlessly, close to impossible to "lose yourself" while listening, which is important for me to be able to keep my interest.
I think I need to listen more carefully to the samples before I spend my point next time.
"What an awesome book."
I've listened through about 12 books and this one is so far the best. I loved every moment of it. If you like fantasy - this is one of the best books I've listened to so far. Even LOTR didn't capture my interest as much as Mistborn. I will definitely continue buying the Mistborn series.
"Great but short"
I love the Old Republic Era Star Wars tales. Unfortunately there are only few available in audio version. Its a great listen definitely. I loved it and looking forward to listen to Dark Lords of the Sith.
"Good book but..."
I couldn't help to notice that hosts mouth was watering a lot. I mean he is reading the text, emotional and all but a lot of times I've had a feeling like he has mouth full of salaiva and he really needed to swallow before reading again... It pulled my attention a lot off of the story. Sometimes I got really into the story but now and again it almost sounded like George was spraying salaiva while reading... I couldn't get over it. Book otherwise is really interesting. I suggest to take a listen.
"Slow"
For some reason I didn't like this book as much as I've liked the "Fatal Alliance".
"Slow but better than a book"
I bought a book and couldn't read it so slow it was. Then I bought audio-book and already on chapter 11. This is definitely one of the slow ones and I bet I wouldn't ever finish it by just reading the book. There is a lot of characters in this book and everyone is going after this sindzia. And the author gives a bit of story and biography of every character. I think that its a bit boring-slow for me because book has so many characters and only few of them stand out - Jedi, his companion and the Sith.
Its a great audible book and I am glad its unabridged. But there are so many character that narrator fails to differentiate some of them sometimes. Marc Thompson is definitely doing great job, but I'd rather prefer a woman voicing over female characters.
Because the story is pretty slow I give this 4 stars. Other than that everything is great. All the background sounds, blaster fire and lightsaber sounds are all great and fitting. And Dramatization is pretty good as well. Marc's "thousands voices" really does a great job here differentiating male characters, but as I've said already I wish there was a woman behind female characters.
