I think I covered the first two words in the in my header. This story is very erotic and kinky and kind of disturbing. It's really and truly rape turned into an erotic, kinky short story.
I would have made Eliza a willing participant from the start and not forced into her "enjoyable" situation. I don't want to give too much away.
Yes - I've listened to several books narrated by Helen Stern and I think she's great.
If you are looking for a short very erotic but somewhat disturbing romance - this might be for you. Enjoy!
I'm really glad that I listened to this book in the Maeve Kerrigan series last because had I listened to it first, I don't think I would have listened to the other books in this series, which are VERY good.
I found Louise to be very annoying in this book and the last hour of the book which is mostly a letter from Louise simply needed to finish!
I don't think this book is critical to Maeve Kerrigan series if you are interested in reading or listening to these books. All of the other books in the series are much better and maybe that is because of the interaction of Josh Derwent. He's a bugger and I love him! He adds to the story.
I just don't think Derwent is that bad. I think Maeve and Derwent actually have the hots for one another and that is what makes it so hard for Maeve. This book tells what formed Josh Derwent. I think he's fantastic and the play between Maeve and Derwent makes the murder investigations in these books even better.
I loved this book. The narration was great and the story was the best! Definitely worth the credit!
Thank goodness, Ashford McNab narrated book 7 in the Maiden Lane Series. There are a few bad narrations for a few of the books in the series. Ashford always does a great job with narration and I think she is the voice of the Maiden Lane characters. HOWEVER, I do not like the severe lisp she has given Phoebe, but all of the characters are spot-on.
I did like this book. Elizabeth Hoyt always writes a good story and a great romance. I'd definitely recommend this book.
Slight - SPOILER ALERT: Although, I REALLY liked this book, I REALLY missed the Ghost of St. Giles. I also missed the past characters. Only Phoebe and Captain Trevillion of the previous Maiden Lane characters make an appearance in this book. A couple of the characters have a few lines, but on the whole, there is no mention of previous characters that have at least made an appearance in all previous books. I found that very disappointing.
I am so excited for the next book. Finally Phoebe's story and I'm excited to see she's hooked up with the Captain. Previews show they escape to Cornwall. Wouldn't it be lovely if Charming Mickey and Silence helped out Phoebe and the Captain. (I can't remember where Mickey and Silence ended up.)
Great book! Great listen!
I enjoyed this book. I found it to be a believable story and I liked that all of the characters from the Survivor's Club are included in the book. Of course, now I want Agnes' sister to be matched up with the Duke. I wish authors wouldn't tease us with a possible romance.
I can't wait for the next book in this series.
Rosalyn Landor is in her element and does a fantastic job with the narration.
Overall, I enjoyed this book. I did think it was a little gross (I'll not give anything away) and the "grossness" could have been more believable if the male character with the mutilation plan would have been built up to be a very high profile agent instead of just a financial agent. I know that's a little convoluted, but I don't want to give too much away.
The ending really sets you up for the next book and continuation of these characters, which I liked.
Rosalyn Landor is one of my favorite narrators, but I typically listen to historical romance and I had a hard time envisioning the characters in this book with her "posh" (at least it's posh to me) British accent. Her accent is perfect for historical romance, but I didn't think it fit well in this murder mystery. BUT --- she delivers a very solid and enjoyable performance.
Overall I thought this was a good book, but the ending was confusing. I don't think that catching the criminal was really the primary point of this book. I just found it confusing as there are a lot of characters with several different plots.
Moira Quirk did a fantastic job.
I do like the character Alex Marrow, but I'd prefer that the book be more focused on her and her team and not so many extra characters.
I really do like Maeve Kerrigan and the team she works with as well as her romance with Rob. I do think Maeve is a little odd in that she doesn't trust Rob to really love her and even when DI Derwent is being nice, she doesn't really give him credit.
I WANT to listen to the last couple of books in this series. I REALLY hope Audible brings them SOON!!!!
Yes, I will likely listen to this story again.
I like Maeve. I think she is a great character and is a good junior detective. I like that the book not only has murder, but also romance. It's a good mix.
I thought Sarah Coomes did a great job with this book. I have other books narrated by Sarah Coomes and I think she is definitely improving with her narrations. I will continue to buy books narrated by her. Occasionally it was hard to tell differences in her characters, but overall she did a great job.
I'm looking forward to the next book in the series! I hope that all of the books in this series eventually get added to Audible!!!!
I would definitely try more books from both Bowen and Kellgren. I've listened to all of the books in the Royal Spyness Mystery series and some of them I have loved. Katherine Kellgren ALWAYS delivers an exciting narration.
I am not sure that I would have enjoyed reading these books as much as I have enjoyed listening to the narration. Katherine Kellgren brings every character to life and combined with the great writing of Rhys Bowen, I feel like I know these characters and I can see them clearly in my imagination as I listen to the books.
I think that the whole series is just a lot of fun, but I really want Darcy to come into some cash so that he and Georgie can get married. The fact that Georgie never knows when and where she will see Darcy again and then he just happens to be in the same location as Georgie is getting old. I did enjoy Georgie's trip to America and her interaction with "the stars".
SPOILERS: I think these books are REALLY cute, but I think this book had a few issues. I didn't like that Georgie solved the mysteries in this book without Darcy. If Scotland Yard is sending Darcy on these cases and he would like to get paid for the work then he should solve the mysteries. I think it's great for Georgie to help, but Darcy left on what basically ended up a wild goose chase while Georgie solved the mysteries. I would really like to see Georgie and Darcy married and solving these mysteries together. Now that would be fun!!!!
I loved the three ongoing stories and I loved Garnet. What a prude.
I thought Ms. Kingsolver did a great job with the narration. I really enjoyed her inflection and her southern accent.
I have to say that I was hoping for a different ending. Each story line wrapped up - sort of - but not completely. I almost feel like Ms. Kingslover needed to just finish the book and I thought it could have gone on a little longer and wrapped up a little better.
This book is not for everyone. You need an appreciation of nature. Ms. Kingslover had to do an incredible amount of research to write this book. I learned a lot. I really enjoyed this book and I'm sure I'll listen to it again.
