I am sure we will be reading about this in the papers. If Lee Child doesn't view this book as a copyright infringement on his Jack Reacher series then something is wrong. Baldacci is certainly a better writer than this. The Jack Reacher series is a good read but my word it isn't worth copying. The army, the coffee, the clock in his head, being well over 6 ft tall, the headbutt to the nose, walking rather than driving, the only thing Puller has that Reacher doesn't is a change of clothes. If I didn't know better I would think David Baldacci is a pen name for Lee Child. Simply to close for me. Don't put me on the jury. Child would win hands down. Baldacci gets an "F" for lack of orginality.
I listen to audio books at an insane rate. If a reader of many books is a book worm I must be a "tape worm". There a lot of great authors and narrators. Sometimes they actually come together on the same series. Boy oh boy did they ever in Sandford's the Prey series. This is the last title that audible has in their listing as of 10/14. I enjoyed the complete series and the Field of Prey was no exception. If you are a fan of Sandford's you will love this one. Enjoy.
I agree Sandford and Ferrone are a great combination. Sandford has moved to one of my top 5 authors. No the language isn't to ruff for me. I think it is down to earth and most likely just the type of vocabulary that real people in the trenches of life use. It certainly was the language the adults used around me when I was a kid.
I like Lee Childs and his character Jack Reacher but he seems a little far fetched at times. Lucas Davenport seems real and does real life stuff. I love this series.
I am a huge fan of Ken Follett and I was really looking forward to the final installment of the this trilogy. Some of my friends loved the Pillars of the Earth and World Without End but didn't like the Century Trilogy. They started the Fall of Giants and didn't finish it. I didn't understand their position but something didn't catch their fancy. After listening the Edge of Eternity I think I understand what they were talking about. The Century Trilogy just didn't really create that spark that is needed to keep a trilogy going.
I have to say that I don't think this is one of Ken's best works. Maybe the historical events that he uses as a back drop are to fresh in my mind. The earlier books like the Pillars of the Earth and World Without End and the first two books of the Century trilogy dealt with general social issues. This book spent a lot of time on one specific social issue from the sixties. Sure it was an issue but it was to specific for me. Follett used general issues like Communism when talking about the family in the eastern block countries but focused on race in the United States. Sure he talked about a lot of other social issues but this book felt like a comment on race relations.
I had the same feeling about Jane Auel's writings in her Earth Children's series. She went to long and didn't stay with the theme in the earlier books. I felt neither of these great authors knew how to finish their great works. To me it was still worth my time to listen to this book but don't send full price on it. Maybe the abridged format would have been better.
Sandford just gets better. Each one of the Prey series is fantastic to me. I love they way they build on each other. Sandford doesn't leave a cliff hanger like the old serials did in the movies but his books sure lead you to wanting to read the next book in the series. Davenport or Mitch Rapp. Maybe they are equal in my mind. Both are dynamite character's. Enjoy.
They just get better. Some of the other reviews had me worried. They said to many potential suspects to twisted. I started to not buy this book, I almost skipped over it. I'm sure glad I didn't. Yes there are a lot of suspects and yes it takes a lot of twist and turns but isn't that what a good book is to do? You'll get your money's worth with this one. Enjoy
All of the previous books in the Lucas Davenport series have had twist and turns and this addition certainly has that as well. Sandford referrers to previous plot lines and incorporates characters from earlier book into Secret Prey with expert precision. Sandford's main character is a very complicated man but also he is a very simple man. Lucas seems to always dealing with moral and personal dilemmas while he is chasing the bad guys. It seems to me Lucas is putting some of his personal demons to rest in this book. Its a nice touch. The ending is different, very different indeed. Enjoy I sure did.
This ibook is my favorite in the Prey series so far. Nice job on how Sandford has grown Lucas. Someone else's review thought Sandford used to much profanity. I thought it sounded realilistic. Do yourself a favor and this series in order. Enjoy.
To me there is a great deal of similarities between Andrew Peterson and Lee Childs writing style. Each of their main characters are very similar. I found I like Peterson and his McBride character better. If you have not listened to Peterson and you like writers like Childs, Silva, and Coonts I think you will like Peterson. Give the McBride series a try I don't think you will be disappointed.
How does Flynn do it? The Mitch Rapp series just keeps getting better. More mature, more cynical, more human all of Flynn's characters from Mitch Rapp to Kennedy and right on down the line. If I had a problem and I don't is the way Flynn portrays the wives of his main characters. Yes I can believe it is very hard on the wives of men who work in the clandestine world not knowing where or just what their husbands are doing. How much danger they are in or not in. But that is true of any relationship between couples, Policemen, firemen, miners, truck drives, many men have dangerous jobs that are important. No they don't go around having gun battles on a daily basis but their jobs are dangerous. Fantastic series do yourself a favor and read the complete series starting with the 1st book. Flynn may not be one of the all time writer of classic literature but he sure fits my taste. I would much rather have a great Double Cheeseburger with fries and a chocolate shake than a steak dinner. Flynn's Rapp series is the great American Double Cheeseburger to me. I want MORE not just a second helping I want a100 helpings of Mitch Rapp and company.
This is insane. I feel like I am addicted to this series. I am completely sleep deprived because of Vince Flynn. My wife is looking for a series to read. I told her the Mitch Rapp character is better than Jason Bourne. She said well I will read one and see. Boy is she in for a surprise. She doesn't believe me. Once she starts this series I won't see her again till this fall.
