I loved the way Mr. Larsson pulled everything together. The first two books are very good but this one is by and far the best of the three. It really is EXCELLENT.
I had read some of the other reviews and was a little worried when I bought this book. I was not disappointed at all. I found it as good any of Follett's work. The Eye of the needle was a very good book and I found Silva did as well if not better with The Unlikely Spy.
I will listen to this book a second time. The Unlikely Spy is one of Silva's best works.
Very much so. I like to listen to a series of books in the order they were written. My brother suggested I listen to Johnson's Longmire series and I am not disappointed at all. I love the way Johnson build on previous stories.
I have to compare Junkyard dogs to all the other books in this series. You can feel and see Johnson grow as a writer or at least he is becoming more comfortable with Longmire and clan that his stories come together a little faster.
I listened to Guidall's conversation with Johnson after one of the previous books. They discussed Guidall's voice and how it fits Johnson's idea of what Longmire should sound like. Guidall isn't my favorite reader but I couldn't imagine anyone else reading this series. He is very captivating.
The title is good enough.
If you haven't listen/read to the previous books in this series do so. I am about the same age that Longmire is in this series and although I am not a widower I sympathize with Longmire. I understand why he is reluctant to enter into a full blown relationship with Vic. It is as if Johnson is looking into my head or at least asking me how would I deal with whatever Longmire is dealing with in his personal life. I didn't know there was a Longmire series on A&E. I don't remember who played Longmire but I don't see Lou Diamond Philips as Henry. Not old enough nor big enough for Henry. If they casted someone for Longmire that isn't old enough to be a Vietnam vet and isn't as big as a house I would be very disappointed. Just like I was when they casted Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher.
The Secret Servant my very well be Silva's best work.
Phil Gigante is an excellent narrator.
This book really wasn't up to par with the first 7 books. To me the story line was empty it just didn't go anywhere. I suspect all this book did was remind everyone that Charlie was still alive and kicking. My wife dislike W.E.B.'s book almost as much as she dislikes Clancy's works. She thinks Clancy is wordy and redundant. To her in this kind of book someone ask the time and then W.E.B. not only tells them how to build the watch before he tells the time he also tells you where to dig the ore to manufacture the metal to make the watch. Don't waste your money on this book. read or listen to the previous book and then wait till number 9 comes out. Maybe he will tell us why he spent so much time with the Russian Priest. I just didn't get it.
Being from Dallas the story line caught my attention. I like the way Tanenbaum worked JFK into the story line. I had heard someone say that Stephen King is to literature what a cheeseburger is to lunch. That is how I feel about Tanenbaum, Big Mac with fries and a chocolate shake.
Not to spoil the ending but I feel the way Butch feels, Corruption of Blood is worth your time.
Silva does a good job with building his story. I had to work to stay with the story for a little while but worth the wait. Nice job. I have down loaded several more of Silva's works and have not been disappointed.
I like this book. I like to listen to books in order of publication. Most authors build on their previous work. My brother talked me into listening this one out of order. He said it followed the English Assassin. Silva does build on his previous work and he did make reference to books between The English Assassin and The English Girl but it didn't get in the way.
Silva gave this book a very nice twist. Half way through I thought where in the world is he going with this one. Then he showed us. Nice job.
I like the Jack Reacher series and I will keep listening to Child's books. On his first Reacher book I felt he was learning how to write. He got better as he completed the next several books. Never Go Back seemed to be me that Child's tried to fit this book into a cookie cutter type of story. I felt he struggled with the story line. Not his best work but good enough for a listen.
I listened to this book twice. As soon as I finished it I listened to it a second time. Great job. I didn't know anything about the Barb until I listened to this book. Fantastic!!!! I felt like I was in the south pacific during WWII. So many leaders get to be leaders by not rocking the boat. Sounds like we owe Admiral Fluckey a tip of the hat for being one of those unusual leaders willing to take the step out of the box, By doing so he did a lot to save many of our brave young men during WWII. Thank you Admiral. I like to think of myself as a student of the war in the pacific. The more I read the more I admire the front line marines, the prisoners of Bataan, all of our young men who suffered at the hands of the Japanese during that conflict. The pain and suffering those men went through unimaginable to today's generations. Then to see McArthur pardon most of the Japanese for their war crimes. What our men must of thought about that. Almost 70 years later we are still looking for German war criminals. But not the Japanese. I knew many WWII veteran's and even some WWI vets. They just didn't talk about their war. They just didn't. What a shame, My father-in-law won 7 bronze stars. His family didn't have a clue until his passing. Even his brother didn't know. How or why these men took their deeds to the grave with them speaks volumes to me. They just did what they had to do and came home and lived a productive life. What a generation. Tom Brokaw labeled them the Greatest Generation. He was right on the money. Listen to this book it is excellent.
I had not read or listened to Silva's work before. My brother put me on to him. I'm glad he did. I like the way Silva works his story. Nice job. I will listen to more.
