I was pleasantly surprised by how good this book was. Most of the story was from a child's perspective. It follows a series of traumatic events in his young life followed by his adult version reflecting on the same set of events. I thought the ending was good.
Hard to say but a really pleasant read.
I loved the years I lived in Sarasota! This was like a trip down memory lane for me. I loved following along the roads I knew so well. I had a Siamese cat from Nokomis who had kittens, one of whom was named Ghost by my friend in Tampa who adopted her, so I found it funny there was a cat with the same name.
Great voice for the characters. Can't imagine anyone doing it better.
Crime wave in Sarasota, Florida!!
Seriously, one book has more crime than the average year in Sarasota, Siesta Key hardly had enough going on to make the Herald.
Why isn't the whole series in audible format? It should be. I'm having to download the rest to Kindle and actually wear out my eyes reading.
None of the behaviors of Spenser or Susan made any sense based on the development of said characters in other books by the author. For example: Susan says something like "He is a violent man but would never be violent to me." It just doesn't sound like something the character, a future shrink, should say.
Only buy if it's on sale really cheap.
A bit less monotone melodrama would be nice.
Susan could be cut from this one and Spenser and Hawk could chase bad guys and it would be better.
Penny is one of a kind, can't compare her book to anyone else's. She is no B.S. honest and sincere. I love her fearlessness in her business dealings. She is more candid than most of us could ever be.
There was a lot of Penny in Laverne. Many of her stories sounded like things Laverne could have pulled off.
Her airport security story was pretty funny. Some people are so unique they shouldn't need an ID to get through security.
I was impressed with the value she places on frends and family and the joy she finds in life.
I wish Meryl Streep had read this as her voice was more compelling in the movie than is this version. One of the few times I enjoyed reading a book much more than listening to it and I listen to quite a few. I could read it better. It is a great book, get a copy and read it yourself.
An interesting book describing ranching life in early Arizona, before air conditioning. Having previously read Glass Castle, I found this was an interesting look at the lives that shaped the author's mother, and gave a more sympathetic view of Rosemary. An interesting read or listen.
I too feel this is a stitched together story made from unfinished leftovers. It felt disjointed as though some unpublished work was thrown together to make a book. Some segments were well developed and good reading but didn't mesh will with other parts of the story. I only hope this is just cleaning off the shelves in preparation for a new and better book by Mr.Conroy because he can write some great stories.
Most of the Nevada Barr books impart some interesting information about the parks she uses as her backdrop. This one covers the Dry Tortugas off the south west coast of Florida. The Civil War era flash back story is dull and interrups the suspense of the current day story which would otherwise be pretty good.
How can anyone read a Carl Hiaasen book out loud without laughing insanely! Yet, inspite of the over the top hysterical attributes of his books, there is a serious underlying message about what is being done to damage our natural resources. A great read or listen.
I enjoyed this story more than the other non-numeric named books. Absurd story with crazy characters woven together quite well.
I have read a lot of the newer books by Connelly but this is really good. I love the Bosch books but have only listened to one other Terry McCaleb book. Very suspensful and well developed characters and plot. Really enjoyed it.
