  • Best of Science Fiction and Fantasy

    • UNABRIDGED (6 hrs and 9 mins)
    • By Arthur C. Clarke, Kristine Kathryn Rusch, Ben Bova, and others
    • Narrated By Adrienne Barbeau, Ken Howard, Jack Carter

Watch out - the Earth just fell into a dark sun's orbit! Or maybe you'd rather visit a theme park called Hell? These are just two of the strange and unnerving tales you'll find in this collection of great science fiction and fantasy stories.

Noah says: "Cute stories, clunky format"
    "awesome collection"

This was one of the best audio short story collections I've had the pleasure of listening to.

  • Therapy

    • UNABRIDGED (13 hrs and 49 mins)
    • By Jonathan Kellerman
    • Narrated By John Rubenstein

"Been a while since I had me a nice little whodunit," homicide detective Milo Sturgis tells Alex Delaware. But there's definitely nothing nice about the brutal tableau behind the yellow crime-scene tape. On a lonely lover's lane in the hills of Los Angeles, a young couple lies murdered in a car. Each bears a single gunshot wound to the head.

    Susan says: "Fun Listening"
"fun and true to L.A. life"

This is the first Kellerman book I've read, and I want more. The strength is all in plotting (twisty) and character (widely varied, yet realistic). The dialogue is great.

And I don't understand the bad reviews about this reader. He does grizzled cop, druggy mom, spoiled teenager, and calm psychologist voices with total believability.

  • Buddha Boy

    • UNABRIDGED (2 hrs and 48 mins)
    • By Kathe Koja
    • Narrated By Spencer Murphy, the Full Cast Family

With his shaved head and begging bowl the new kid is an automatic target for the bully boys of Edward Rucher High, an easy mark for their casual cruelty.

    Abby Goldsmith says: "Ugh"

The blurb for this book makes it sound like a story of ostracism in high school, but the characters are cardboard-flat. It's more of a preachy spiritual trip for the author than a story. There's no reason for the narrator to befriend the school outcast (who is a Christian-raised white boy trying to be a Buddhist monk). The narrator's friends are bratty and too obviously shallow. The school bully is a stock stereotype who does all the predictable bully things. I got about halfway through this audiobook and quit.

  • Tuck Everlasting

    • UNABRIDGED (3 hrs and 5 mins)
    • By Natalie Babbitt
    • Narrated By Melissa Hughes
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could live forever? In this modern classic, Tuck Everlasting, author Natalie Babbitt explores the unforeseen complications that arise when the Tuck family unwittingly drinks from a spring of eternal life.

    Heidi says: "Kept them entertained!"

I'm glad to finally get a chance to read this children's classic. The reader is a little patronizing, but the author's voice shines through.

  • A Game of Thrones: A Song of Ice and Fire, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (33 hrs and 50 mins)
    • By George R. R. Martin
    • Narrated By Roy Dotrice

In a time long forgotten, a preternatural event threw the seasons off balance. In a land where summers can last decades and winters a lifetime, trouble is brewing. As the cold returns, sinister forces are massing beyond the protective wall of the kingdom of Winterfell. To the south, the king's powers are failing, with his most trusted advisor mysteriously dead and enemies emerging from the throne's shadow.

DCinMI says: "Review of First 5 Books"
    "Riveting epic story!"

I'm hooked on this series by George R.R. Martin. This is an unusual fantasy epic, with 6 books planned (3 completed), but worth the time investment. The characters are extremely realistic, well-rounded, and deep. Their relationships are fascinating. Every chapter ends on a cliff-hanger, yet somehow it doesn't get tedious. It's just pure fun.

  • The Secret Sharer and Other Stories

    • UNABRIDGED (5 hrs and 55 mins)
    • By Robert Silverberg
    • Narrated By Robertson Dean

In "The Secret Sharer", a young untested officer is in command of a large starship carrying passengers in the form of digitized matrices. When a matrix breaks free of the storage circuit, crewmembers warn the young commander that the invisible matrix will try to inhabit a body.

    "Held my interest"

I loved the premise of "The Secret Sharer", and it was exceptionally well-written. The other two stories were a little meandering, and didn't seem to have much of a point.
