"A great listen"
Welcome to Temptation is on my list of top listens for 2009. It was laugh out loud funny (which was somewhat problematic during a crowded commute).
"Intriguing blend of Steampunk and Western."
I was quite intrigued to listen to The Half-Made World after reading io9's review that begins with:
"Sick of predictable books that fill your subgenre bingo card with the same subgenre elements over and over? With The Half-Made World, Felix Gilman has blended elements from alternate history, Steampunk, Westerns, and epic fantasy to create something truly original."
It does take a few chapters to get this new world storted out, but once hooked, I found myself quite loathe to stop listening. I hope to read more of the Half-Made World.
"big crusie fan, but the narration is horrible."
I've a strong stomach for most things, but if you're interested in this book, please listen to the sample first. The two voices don't bridge to one another at all and it's very hard to follow the plot. I've given up.
"Laugh out loud funny!"
Mr. Hodgman has brilliantly adapted his book into an audio version, that in my mind, suprasses the original. His reading and interaction with musician Jonathan Coulton, who performs all of the state theme songs, is not to be missed. If I could give this book more stars, I would.
"please feed the narrator!"
i found the rumbling stomach noises to be very distracting. otherwise, i wanted to like this book as i've enjoyed previous, but if felt very preachy and unbalanced.
"absolutely brilliant"
the entire trilogy is amazing and the dramatization by such a varied cast brings the book to life. blows harry potter off his broom!
