Poor Meg Langslow. She's blessed in so many ways. Michael, her boyfriend, is a handsome, delightful heartthrob who adores her. She's a successful blacksmith, known for her artistic wrought-iron creations. But somehow Meg's road to contentment is more rutted and filled with potholes than seems fair.

Four US Navy SEALS departed one clear night in early July, 2005 for the mountainous Afghanistan-Pakistan border for a reconnaissance mission. Their task was to document the activity of an al Qaeda leader rumored to have a small army in a Taliban stronghold. Five days later, only one of those Navy SEALS made it out alive. This is the story of the only survivor of Operation Redwing, SEAL team leader Marcus Luttrell, and the extraordinary firefight that led to the largest loss of life in American Navy SEAL history.

One of the best books I have ever listened to that totally breaks your heart but keeps you so interesting in the lives of these heroic boys that fought for our freedom.....so much better to read/listen to the story than to watch at the movies...I liked the movie but they added things that weren't in the book....so know the facts before you see it on the big screen.....could listen to it over and over

In this riveting landmark autobiography, which reads like a novel, Academy Award and Emmy winner Louis Gossett, Jr., masterfully transports us to 1840s New York; Washington, D.C.; and Louisiana to experience the kidnapping and 12 years of bondage of Solomon Northup, a free man of color. Twelve Years a Slave, published in 1853, was an immediate bombshell in the national debate over slavery leading up to the Civil War.

one of my 1st audible books was On the Corner of Bitter & Sweet.....guess I wasn't very good with my history but had no idea what happened to the American Japanese here in the United States after the bombing of Pearl Harbor....that made me so interested, and now this book took you right there again and it was sooooo good and so sad at the same time. It's a must read. I finished it today and can't get it off my mind...you for sure won't want to put this one down...in fact, this would make a fantastic movie

In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue - Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is - she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

From 1999 to 2009, U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle recorded the most career sniper kills in United States military history. The Pentagon has officially confirmed more than 150 of Kyles kills (the previous American record was 109), but it has declined to verify the astonishing total number for this book. Iraqi insurgents feared Kyle so much they named him al-Shaitan (“the devil”) and placed a bounty on his head. Kyle earned legendary status among his fellow SEALs, Marines, and U.S. Army soldiers, whom he protected with deadly accuracy from rooftops and stealth positions.

I heard Chris had been killed while I was still listening to this book......I hurried and finished it the Monday after.....the books made the war come alive for me...I knew things we bad for our boys fighting for us to be free, but it helps give you a glimpse of why they have such a hard time when they get out. Chris was an amazing guy because he loved his job and was so good at it. I feel so sorry for his wife and children....they gave him up to fight and now they gave him up again when there was so many good things he wanted to do. You get his wives view about being a military wife, you'll learn a lot about different types of guns....that kind of went over my head....the language gets a little rough in spots, but I am so glad I chose this book to read....it gives you such a deep appreciation for the people who serve our great nation and what all they endure, as well as their families. I feel like I knew Chris personally....such a sad ending to a faithful soldier!

More than a million listeners have thrilled to Bill O'Reilly's Killing Lincoln, the can't-stop-listening work of nonfiction about the shocking assassination that changed the course of American history. Now the anchor of The O'Reilly Factor recounts in gripping detail the brutal murder of John Fitzgerald Kennedy—and how a sequence of gunshots on a Dallas afternoon not only killed a beloved president but also sent the nation into the cataclysmic division of the Vietnam War and its culture-changing aftermath.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Seabiscuit was a runaway success, and Hillenbrand’s done it again with another true-life account about beating unbelievable odds. On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared.....

I would love to be able to meet these men in this book to give them a hug of thanksgiving for serving our country so that I may be free. To Louis Zamperini, who his life experiences can make you laugh in one minute and then break your heart in the next...to a man who figured out what our life here on earth is all about...to serve the one and only Jesus Christ with your whole heart and soul and give thanks in the worst of times and forgive those who hurt you......this man through all his many triumphs and trials....truely has to be a saint. I know alot of the other books I have read too from my list has been amazing, but this is truely one to be inspired from....don't miss out....READ IT! NOW!
