This is the 2nd book in the series of Lost Lords of Pembrook. The first book is not available on audible, however I did read it and it was fantastic, it was about Sebastian. This book, Lord of Tempation, is about Tristan and the 3rd book is about Rafe. I am looking forward to the 3rd book which is available on audible, and I am about to start it. I am not sure why audible does not have the books grouped as a series or why the 1st one is not available on audible. However, the order of this series is as follows:
    She Tempts a Duke
    Lord of Temptation
    Wicked Intentions

    I hope this helps.
Also I thought the narrator has done a fantastic job!

    Story

This was a pretty good story. I really liked the heroine, she was funny, witty and smart, not the whimpering, simpering chew on bottom lip heroine. The hero was okay too, I would have liked him a bit more sexy and arrogant, but not a bad arrogant. The H and H did have some good chemistry and there are some nicely written sex scenes, not to graphic, just the right amount.

The story line and plot were very good. The villains were definitely villains! Oh my... they were bad. LOL

There as so much dialogue throughout the entire book which was fantastic. (I like lots of dialogue)

I really liked some of the secondary characters as well. Looking forward to Leopold's book for sure.

As for the narration. It was just okay. The narrator seemed so monotone and a bit robotic throughout the entire book. She really needs to put some emotion in her voice. The men sound like men which is good but still some emotion would be great.

    Story

This is an old book, first published in 1979. The story started out real good for a while. But eventually went a bit down hill. I really liked the hero and the heroine in the beginning. Then heroine became too annoying, and stupid. Making stupid decisions, always had to be her way. I was glad it finally ended. The author drug it out adding things that didn't necessarily need to be included. Needless to say I have read two very old books back to back and have had my fill of older HR books.

There was a lot of dialogue throughout the book which I did like, (I do like lots of dialogue in my books) There was sex in this story, of course not graphic but there was fondling and "lovemaking" that is how it is referred to in the book.

The narration was very good. Marian Hussey did a great job, everybody had their own distinct voice.

I really enjoyed listening to this story. I do believe I read this book back in the 1970's. But wanted to give the audible a try. I liked the characters, and character development. I did think that Alex the hero of the story was a bit too hard and cold, but still likable. Elysia, the heroine, was a strong for the most part, she had her stupid moments though.

The story had a little mystery, deceit, smuggling, and romance.

There was not much dialogue in this book and would have like more, but the story was good.

Historical romance stories and writing sure has changed since the 1970's. There was sex in the book, not graphic in anyway but it was there.

For a book written almost 40 years ago it was enjoyable and entertaining.

As for the narration, she did a great job. The men sounded like men, and everyone had their own distinct voice. Marian Hussey is very pleasant and relaxing to listen too.

I got this book on my KU for free and paid 3.49 for the audible. So yes it was worth the money for sure.

Wow what a fantastic story! Loved this book. The story line and plot is absolutely fantastic. There was always something going on all the time I didn't want to put it down.
I loved the hero, he was big, strong, handsome, arrogant, gruff, and caring. The heroine was wonderful, strong, beautiful, and very courageous, not whiny and whimpering.

There was so much wonderful dialogue throughout the entire book. (I love lots of dialogue). The chemistry was great and the sex scenes very well written.

As for the narrator, Susan Duerden, she did a great job. Much better performance than some of her others. The men sound like men and the women sound like women. Every one had their own distinct voice. She narrates with much emotion as it is called for in the book, ie. yelling, crying, whispering, etc. Of course it's Susan Duerdan so you get the sing song reading and drawwwnnn ouuutt worrrddss but you can get past it in this book.

I totally recommend this book it was amazing, as well as the first book in this series The Secret.

Just say yes yes yes to this book! It's totally worth it!

    Story

I am a huge Elizabeth Hoyt fan and have read all her books. So it is extremely disappointing to me that this story was boring. There really was nothing exciting, emotional, no OMG moments, no mystery. The story line was so hum drum and meh.
This could have been a stand alone book as it did not seem to fit at all into the Maiden Lane series at all.

The chemistry between Apollo and Lily was just okay, nothing memorable. The sex scenes were fine. There was lots of dialogue throughout the entire book (I like lots of dialogue), so there is that. Lily's son Indio was a great character, I did enjoy him.

As for the narration. WHAT THE HECK IS UP WITH THE LISP THE NARRATOR GAVE LADY PHOEBE?? Really!?! What a way to ruin a character who is already blind, you have to give her a speech impediment too? She did NOT have a lisp in any of the previous books, nor was she described that she had a lisp. That was horrible of the narrator. So, she loses stars for bad lisp narration. If it was discussed with the author and purposely done, that was a bad decision. Other wise she did fine.

I read\listened to the excerpt of the next book, it was only a few pages, and enjoyed it more than (minus the lisp) the entire Darling Beast Book.

It really has me wondering if Elizabeth Hoyt really wrote it. sigh....

Judith Hampton was as beautiful as she was proud and loyal. Her dear Scottish friend from childhood was about to give birth, and Judith had promised to be at her side. But there was another reason for the journey from her bleak English home to the Highlands: to meet the father she had never known, the Laird Maclean. Nothing prepared her, however, for the sight of the Scottish barbarian who was to escort her into his land...Iain Maitland, laird of his clan, a man more powerfully compelling than any she had ever encountered.

    Story

Wow that was a fantastic story. The hero, Iain was big, hunky, and awesome. The heroine, Judith, was beautiful, funny, witty and smart. Loved these two together. Fantastic chemistry and dialogue. Nicely written sex scenes between them too. So if you are wondering there is sex in the book.

Dialogue was great throughout the entire book and there is plenty of it. (I like lot's of dialogue in my books) The story line and plot were great. I really liked all the secondary characters as well.

As for the narration. there were some positive and some negative. Positive is Susan Duerdan did the heroine's voice very well, I also like the emotion she uses when it's required, ie, whispering, yelling, mumbling etc., I liked the hero's voice he sounded strong, manly and sexy.

Negative on the narration is that some of the secondary male character highlander's voices were so awfully high pitched and obnoxiously screechy it was brutal.

Also, the reading voice she uses is so sing song, she draws out those consonants at the end of the sentences. So for example "She made it home" would be read like "She made it Hommmmmmmme" it's very annoying. When she is reading dialogue she does not do this she ends the word properly and does not drawwwwwwwwww it out. She is not my favorite narrator but she is better than some, ie Anne Fosnik, sorry but AF ruins and destroys books.

    Story

Where to begin. Well it's not my favorite Liz Carlyle book. There was mostly sex in this book, it definitely need more story in it as 80% was sex with toys and whips. I still don't know if I liked the hero, Hepplewood he was sort of at jerk at times, and very cold. The heroine, Isabella was just a bit wishy washy, sometimes strong and sometimes just plain weak, and didn't know what she wanted. There was lot's of dialogue throughout the book. The story line had so much promise but seemed lacking, probably due all the sex which some of could have been eliminated and replaced with story then it would have been a much better book. The main focus seemed to be about the sex which is unfortunate because the underlying story would have been good but was smothered.

As far as the amazon reviews on pedophilia, that was not described at all it was just talked about as one of the characters was a total creep. But there was no descriptions or scenes written about that at all.

I do hope Liz Carlyle goes back to the way she normally writes, a good story with some sex instead of a sex book with some story. Her previous book In Love with a Wicked Man was fantastic. This one not so much.

As for the narrator, she was, as always fantastic! Love Carolyn Morris narrations, she does the men's voices well and gives everyone their own distinct voice, absolutely fantastic narrator!

What a great story. I really enjoyed this story line, the characters and the character development. The hero, Edward/Ned Quartermaine was just fantastic, even when he didn't know he was a ruthless rogue. The heroine, Kate, was smart, witty, and very strong. I particularly liked that SHE was a baroness, her own title. The chemistry and sexual tension was great, not forced, The sex scenes very well written.

There was lots of great dialogue throughout the entire book. All the secondary characters fun and memorable. The whole story flowed very well and easy to follow.

The narration was perfect! I absolutely love Carolyn Morris, the men sound like men and the hero always sounds like a sexy man! All the characters have their own distinct voice, you know who is speaking. And her reading voice is just lovely, and she puts the perfect amount of emotion, ie, yelling, whispering, angry, happy etc.. I could listen to her narrate every book!

Well I tried to finish this book. I got all the way to 50% and just couldn't listen any further.
The hero was just to creepy, and the narration made him even more creepy. The character development was lacking, the chemistry between the two was forced and just not good. The story line was blah. And the fact that he was married and she was the "pretend housekeeper" ridiculous and why did she have to have a pockmarked face? well only half her face was marked, hmmm....... do people only get the pox on once side of their face?? I think not. That was stupid.

I am glad I got this book free on my kindle unlimited along with the narration, and didn't waste my money, but it sure was a waste of my time.

The narrator was terrible, awful, and just grating on my last nerve.

I do not recommend this book with or without the narration, but especially with the narration. Sorry.
