In her deliciously intriguing The Bride Wore Scarlet, Carlyle does historical romance absolutely right—as a determined young beauty’s desire to gain entrance into the secret all-male society places her under the powerfully sensuous spell of the group’s ruthless and enigmatic leader. Fans of Amanda Quick and Gaelen Foley are going to love this Bride!

Wow I enjoyed this second book in the FAC series much more than the first book. I really loved the heroine Anais, she was strong, funny and very witty, took zero crap from anyone and spoke her mind. The hero was really good too.

The story line and plot was good, a little bit of kidnapping, and sword fighting. The chemistry between the hero and heroine was hot and steamy, plenty of sex but not too much. There was quite a bit of dialogue too. I love dialogue in the books I read.

I like the "Gift" story in these books, it's different but not too out there to be considered paranormal. (I do read paranormal books too, and like them)

As for the narrator she did a fantastic job. I did speed her up to 1.25 speed but that is just my preference, she did fine at regular speed as well. She made the men sound like men and gave everyone their own distinct voice.

This was a decent story. The hero and heroine were good, had some good chemistry a few nicely written sex scenes. There was a lot of dialogue in this book, which I liked. I liked the secondary characters.

However there was not much substance to the story, no mystery or anything like that. One secret you found out about at the end, but no OMG moments at all.

I do like the writing style so I will listen to the next book and hope it is a bit more exciting than this one.

As for the narration it was not the best, but not the worst. She did make the men sound like men, but she made the heroine sound really bored a lot of the time.

How about a book with 414 pages on kindle, 11 hours 28 minutes on audible and ends with TO BE CONTINUED......

Pretty disappointing I say. I have not even started the 4th book I am so aggravated. Lets just say that if I had to wait the 9-12 months for the next book to be released this review would be a bit more scathing. Luckily I just started this series and 5 of the books are available. However I am not even sure the 5 book is the last so who knows!
I think this story could have been finished without the stupid TO BE CONTINUED....
I would have been more inclined to immediately buy it. But I am not. On to something else then I may come back to finish this series.

Okay now that I am done venting, I thought the story was good. There were more of the Gods involved, the story line and plot was good. The chemistry between Penelope and Kinich is good, although his tunnel vision on relationships is a bit annoying. The sex scenes are well written, I love Cimil, Goddess of the Underworld. There is a lot of dialogue, ( I like a lot of dialogue) unfortunately this book is also written in the first person so again we get the blah blah blah thoughts of Penelope throughout the story. A lot of the characters from the previous books are present in this book, I like that.

As for the narrator, I have to say she has gotten so much better since the first book, All the characters have their own distinct voice, the men sound like men, she puts a lot of emotion in where it is needed and her reading voice is good.

Ahhh this book was much better than the first. The Heroine, Helena was a lot less stupid and whiny than Emma from the first book. The story line was good, the chemistry was good, there was plenty of dialogue. The hero was very sexy and smart. A nicely written sex scene too.

Oh and Cimil is great, Love her! Someone said she reminded them of Nucking Futs Nix from Kresley Cole Immortals After Dark series, and she does a little, The character is somewhat similar but of course Nix is still the very best.

This book was also NOT written in the first person which I think also made the book even better.

I have already started the third book and guess what?? Yep its written in the first person so we get all those constant thoughts and blah blah blah's again like the first book.. oh well..

As to the narrator, she is getting better and I really enjoyed her narration in this story a lot more than the first. She did better character voices and the men's voices sounded much better. Keep improving on that narration Helen Wick its paying off!

    Credit worthy? Yes.

Emma Keane is your average city girl trying to get a date. There's just one thing holding her back: the disembodied male voice speaking to her through her mind. Sound kind of crazy? Maybe. But crazy turns downright deadly when the voice persuades her to travel to the wilds of the Mayan jungle. There she will free his body - his incredibly hot, muscled, naked body.

    Story

Where to start? This is a hard review to leave, because I liked the story enough to buy the second book. But.... It was very frustrating at times. I am not a huge fan of books written in the first person and most of this book was written that way, some was not (which was the better).

The heroine Emma was very annoying and did some really stupid things a lot of the time, She was so hot/cold, up/down, right/left, back and forth... I actually found my self yelling at her for being stupid and not thinking about what was going on around her rather than her stupid feelings. This guy has been in your head and saved you almost your whole life but you are going to question him and listen to others??? DUH!!!! of course you are! GRRRR..

Other than the stupidity on her part sometimes it was a good story. There was a lot of dialogue (which I like), sexual chemistry (in between her hot and cold thoughts) and a nicely written sex scene towards the end. The story was good but would have been better without the writing in the first person and the stupidity.

Like I said, I did buy the second book and started it. Luckily its not written in the first person! So we are already off to a better start.

As for the narrator, she is okay, I have listened to worse, but she is far from the best. She does not do the men's voices very well, they sound to feminine for my liking.

I have to give this one 3.5 stars because of the heroine's annoying frustrating feelings causing her to do dumb things. And the fact that it was mostly written in the first person, which I think is what caused the heroine to be stupid, we had to listen to her thoughts and assumptions way too much!

I am hoping the second book is better and we have a less annoying stupid heroine.

Lady Emily Clearbrook secretly loved the Earl of Stonebridge, but one day, he left her without a word. Now, years later, the man mysteriously reappears and battles Emily's four brawny brothers to woo her again. But the bigger battle seems to be with Emily! This sweet historical romance series, about a duke's family, includes delightful, heartwarming love stories that bring the Regency period to life.

The narration was so bad the book suffered even more. The story it's self just was okay, the characters were just okay. There was a lot of dialogue (which I did like). Zero sex in this book so its rated G. There was kissing, that's it.
This story could have been much better.

Ruined by the narration. All the men sounded like old scratchy high pitch voiced idiots.

I don't think I will ever listen to this narrator again.

Instead, despised by her aristocratic father's family because of her mother's foreign birth, she's taken a safe position as a governess. Now, unprotected and alone in London, accused of the shocking murder of her employer, she has no one to turn to except the mysterious - and possibly dangerous - Lord Ruthveyn.

I did enjoy this story, it was interesting. There was a murder mystery story line and plot to go with the romance story. I liked the hero and the heroine a lot. I really liked the secondary character of Anisha, the hero's sister. There was plenty of dialogue. Some good chemistry and sex scenes, not a rated G book.

I am still debating moving on to the next book in the series. As I liked this story it didn't grab my impulse to immediately buy the next book. Still thinking on it...

As for the narrator she did a very good job. Everyone had their own distinct voice and she did the men pretty good.

Being good has worked out very badly for Lady Olivia Archer. All she has to show for four seasons on the marriage mart is the nickname Prissy Missy. Her prospects are so bleak that her parents have betrothed her to a stranger with a dire reputation. If Phinneas Cole - aka The Mad Baron - wants a biddable bride, perhaps Olivia can frighten him off by breaking every ladylike rule.

All in all it has all the elements I enjoy in a book.

The narrator did a great job. everyone had their own voice and she did a great job on the men's voices.

I usually get bored after about the 8th book in a series but not this one, I could never get bored with. I do hope there is another book to follow. Would like a Nix book. (who wouldn't).........

Someone left a review what this book was left in a cliffhanger! WRONG DO NOT BELIEVE THAT REVIEW. There is NO CLIFFHANGER. It is just as good as all the previous books.

Love Love Love Robert Petkoff! Best male narrator ever!

I have read this whole series and this was by far the worst. I loved the first book, Noble Intentions, its actually one of my favorites, however I read it, I did not listen to it and I am glad for that. This narrator is not very good at all.

This story was just stupid. It seems to author tried so hard to make it funny it turned out to just be really stupid and it took away from the funny moments.

The only plus I could find is there was lots of dialogue.

The heroine did start out fun and enjoyable but after a several chapters went down hill from there and she just became dumb. There was nothing very good about the hero either, he was just blah.

I would recommend the first book in this series for reading not listening.

No this book was not credit worthy, and that was disappointing to me.

The narrator added to to ruination of this book.
