The book can be a bit long and drawn out, however if you have ever worked with the English it’s typical. Despite this, the story line still keeps you interested. You are given a window into Philby’s life, with full view of the exciting and mundane. Your time is rewarded at the end with a twist I had never considered.
What I'm trying to say in my headline this book is a better option when it goes on sale. If you do this you will feel better about the purchase. I've gone through alot of Zombie books, and this just rates as average to mediocre. I don't want to place blame, but I think the narrator has something to do with it. The audio is good and the narrator can speak well. However there is just no "Pizazz" in the narration. I'm debating if I should purchase the second book or not. Again not a bad book, but not a great book.
Normally part two is at best mediocre, but V.H. did not disappoint. I enjoyed the Preface, he calls this a “What If” story. The parallels to today’s geopolitical events are a bit to close to shrug off. The best fiction always has some reality to it. If you could package adrenaline, ass-kicking, and patriotism into a book, then this is the one. I dinged this book by one star on the story catagory. I did this because he ends this on to much of a cliff hanger, and I hate that. Waiting for book three.
This book is has some Tom Clancy influences, but dare I say better. This book contains continuous action, drama, and suspense to keep you reading. The narration is great, storyline realistic and continuous emotional highs. I’m pre-ordering for book two now.
So I’m embarrassed to say I’m new to the world of Ayn Rand, but there it is. I’m thankful I found her, and thankful for audible for having some of her library available for download. I was surprised when my Mother-in-law informed me that Ayn Rand use to be required reading when she was in high school; my how times have changed. The book itself has so many parallels to what we are experiencing in this country today, it’s scary. I’m trying to understand what she saw happening in this county back in the 50’s to write such a book. The narration is excellent, the theme timeless, and the lessons being thought are priceless. The book is long, but don’t be scared away by this. The time spent, is well worth it. The engine of this great republic is slowly coming to a halt; read this book to find out why.
“Who is John Galt”
I can’t believe I wasted a credit on this. I’m taking advantage of the do over clause on my account. The recording gave the impression that it was done in someone’s basement with second hand recording gear, maybe closeouts from Circuit City. The storyline was poor, unimaginative, and just plain bad. Please do not waist your credits or the seven hours of your time.
So there is a minimum of 15 words. Narrator had an annoying voice, and the story & characters %$#!@%.
I purchased the first Audio Book in this series, Without Warning, and really enjoyed it. I gave that Audio Book 4.5 Stars. What really made that Audio Book in addition to the good writing was the Narrator Tom Weiner. He made that Audio Book. He painted this picture in my head composed of these different characters and voices. I enjoyed the new book, but the narrator and the audio just didn't compare to the first. They didn't feel like the same characters, and in my opinion took away from my enjoyment. If there is going to be third book in series, go with your original narrator, PLEASE.
