  • Tempted by Trouble: A Novel

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 27 mins)
    • By Eric Jerome Dickey
    • Narrated By Dion Graham
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Dmytryk Knight was a respectable man who had followed the blueprints for the American Dream: go to college, find the girl of your dreams, get married, buy a house on the affluent side of Detroit. He’d done it all by the book. But when a crippling recession annihilates the auto industry, Dmytryk and his wife, Cora, suddenly find themselves without jobs and in foreclosure. And after two years of taking any job they can find and trying to live honestly, they realize that integrity just doesn’t pay the bills.

    Magdaline says: "Spellbound"
    "Disappointing... boring....too slow..."

I'm a big fan of most of Dickey's work - especially the Gideon series of novels. If you're looking for more of that type - this book definitely not one to recommend. The narration is great as usual, but the story is way to slow with sporadic action mostly late in the book, and the characters are..... (odd choice of word here but fitting)....irritating. Main character is a morally mixed up whining sap. Listened to the whole book but can't say that I enjoyed it.

"Booooo!!!! Worst of the series :("

Very disappointing compared to the other books to this pojnt in the series. Way to long into the book before getting to any real action or excitement, silly dialog, ....uhggg...waste of time. Skip this one if you loved tge others .

  • Amped: A Novel

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 42 mins)
    • By Daniel H. Wilson
    • Narrated By Robbie Daymond
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

In Amped, people are implanted with a device that makes them capable of superhuman feats. The powerful technology has profound consequences for society, and soon a set of laws is passed that restricts the abilities - and rights - of "amplified" humans. On the day that the Supreme Court passes the first of these laws, 29-year-old Owen Gray joins the ranks of a new persecuted underclass known as "amps." Owen is forced to go on the run, desperate to reach an outpost in Oklahoma where, it is rumored, a group of the most enhanced amps may be about to change the world - or destroy it.

D says: "No Michael Crighton but still worth a listen"
    "If you liked your credit"
Would you try another book from Daniel H. Wilson and/or Robbie Daymond?

After this one.... now I have my doubts

Would you ever listen to anything by Daniel H. Wilson again?

Possibly, but only after strong recommendations from other listeners.

What aspect of Robbie Daymond???s performance would you have changed?

Performance was fine, the content of the book just did not deliver.

What character would you cut from Amped?

    They all need work.....

    Any additional comments?

I was a fan of Wilson's Robopocalypse so I was expecting more of the same action and interesting story-line. This book simply did not deliver. I found it boring, predictable, and was very disappointed.

  • Adventures of Huckleberry Finn: A Signature Performance by Elijah Wood

    • UNABRIDGED (10 hrs and 12 mins)
    • By Mark Twain
    • Narrated By Elijah Wood
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

A Signature Performance: Elijah Wood becomes the first narrator to bring a youthful voice and energy to the story, perhaps making it the closest interpretation to Twain’s original intent.

james d. thomas says: "Worthy "signature" premiere"
    "Could not enjoy this book"

So much use of the 'N' word eventually got to me and I could not finish this book. Maybe reading it is different but hearing it over and over again really grated on me.

  • Three Seconds

    • UNABRIDGED (15 hrs and 52 mins)
    • By Anders Roslund, Börge Hellström, Kari Dickson (translator)
    • Narrated By Christopher Lane

In this dark and gripping novel from number-one best-selling Swedish writing duo Roslund and Hellström, Piet Hoffman is the Swedish police’s most valuable secret operative. His cover is that of a lieutenant inside the ruthless Polish mafia, trying to take over amphetamine distribution within Sweden’s prison system. With this, his most dangerous assignment, success will mean a new identity and the freedom to start a new life with his wife and young sons.

Howard says: "Forget the comparision - enjoy the read"
"Not on par with Stieg Larsson..."

This is definitely not on the same level as a Stieg Larsson novel. I too bought into the hype. Like other reviews indicate the book is not bad, just a bit slow and the end is predictable.

  • 7 Deadly Wonders

    • UNABRIDGED (12 hrs and 54 mins)
    • By Matthew Reilly
    • Narrated By William Dufris
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

The Golden Capstone atop the Great Pyramid at Giza offered protection from the global flooding and scorching sun that occurs every 4,500 years due to the Tartarus Rotation solar event. But Alexander the Great broke the Capstone into seven pieces and hid them in the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Now, in 2006, another Tartarus Rotation is due, and whoever places the reconstructed Capstone on the pyramid in time will gain absolute earthly power.

Michael Stites says: "Bias brings down a otherwise good story"
    "Waste of a good credit...."

Very disappointed. Felt like I was listening to the scene-by-scene narration of a ridiculous video game. Not what I was expecting. Very predictable and silly. I just had to stop after the main character (a mere mortal mind you) jumped on the back of a 30 foot crocodile and snapped its neck with his bare hands ....ya....right. Even fiction has it's limits of believability.
