In this exciting seventh entry in Thomas Perry's Jane Whitefield series, Jane spirits James Shelby, a man unjustly convicted of his wife's murder, out of the criminal court building in downtown Los Angeles-but the price of Shelby's freedom is high.

Would you ever listen to anything by Thomas Perry again?

Yes, I love Thomas Perry as an author, but this book was very dark, very graphic in image.
The image and details presented in the torture process was horrible. It is not necessary to go into so much detail.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Joyce Bean?

    The narrator was good

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

After you get past the chapters of torture, the book is a typical Thomas Perry novel that keeps you involved in the story.

    Any additional comments?

Don't read this book if you have a weak stomach; the torture details are to graphic, it is not needed for this story. It ruined the book and made me think twice about reading a Thomas PERRY NOVEL AGAIN.

Judith Hampton was as beautiful as she was proud and loyal. Her dear Scottish friend from childhood was about to give birth, and Judith had promised to be at her side. But there was another reason for the journey from her bleak English home to the Highlands: to meet the father she had never known, the Laird Maclean. Nothing prepared her, however, for the sight of the Scottish barbarian who was to escort her into his land...Iain Maitland, laird of his clan, a man more powerfully compelling than any she had ever encountered.

Would you try another book from Julie Garwood and/or Susan Duerden?

yes, because I love her stories, I just wish she would not make scenes in the book, so sexually explicit. The story is good without the explicit details.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Very good ending. I am a sucker for a happy ending.

Which character – as performed by Susan Duerden – was your favorite?

    Daniel

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

    no

    Any additional comments?

'The sexual scenes took up to much of the book.

Declan Fitzgerald had always been the family maverick, but even he couldn't understand his impulse to buy a dilapidated mansion on the outskirts of New Orleans. All he knew was that ever since he saw Manet Hall, he'd been enchanted - and obsessed - with it. So when the opportunity to buy the house comes up Declan jumps at the chance to live out a dream.

What disappointed you about Midnight Bayou?

The author had a great story idea, but did not follow through with the plot; focusing to much on the "bedroom" and not enough on the exciting idea of the haunted mansion. This story could have been much better, had the author more fully developed and followed through with the story.

What do you think your next listen will be?

I am going to try a book by Susanna Kearsley.

Would you be willing to try another one of James Daniels and Sandra Burr ’s performances?

Possibly; I just don't know if I would want to pay a credit for another shallow story.

What character would you cut from Midnight Bayou?

    The heroine's mother.

Any suggestions on an author that writes romance, but is not explicit with sex scenes?
