Almost the first 6 hours are building up to the murder. So it's not really an edge of the seat type book. The nice thing is you do know all the characters. I somehow missed this one when I started reading P. D. James. I like the stories and I know what I'm getting.
The story like others of P. D. James is great though it did take a while to get started. I just wish there was more attention paid to the audio file. Every so often lines are repeated. It seems that an tape version was converted. At least we don't get the side 2 message.
It was worth listening to but I wish it was longer and went into more depth. I would love a good history of this time even if it didn't go too biblical. They also cut what I felt were important parts. Even if they added a few more hours I could still want more.
The spoiler is in the title. It is mostly history with some speculation built in.
Once I knock down my backlog I might consider some of Bill O'Reilly's other books. Maybe if he does another interesting Killing book I might jump that ahead of some others.
Not so much a follow-up but I would like to get more history of that time so I can understand the book better.
The book is easy to listen to but there are times I get lost in what I know of the Bible and the narration. Some things are cut and others not explained. I just want more.
The performance is great and just kept me listening. The story is is like so many sword and sourcery books transformed into todays worlds.
Just a great story. An amazing first novel.
This is a story about American's at their best. The beginning part of the book while a sometimes a bit dry in it's history is very informative and as the story builds the book just gets better. It's a good listen and it's nice to hear about America doing the right thing even when it wasn't the easy thing. At over 20 hours it got me to and from work for long time.
