Always leave a little salt on the bread. Ikey Solomon's favorite saying is also his way of doing business, and in the business of thieving he's very successful indeed. Ikey's partner in crime is his mistress, the forthright Mary Abacus, until misfortune befalls them. They are parted and each must make the harsh journey from thriving nineteenth century London to the convict settlement of Van Diemen's Land.

Was aviation pioneer and popular American hero Charles A. Lindbergh a Nazi sympathizer and anti-Semite? Or was he the target of a vicious personal vendetta by President Roosevelt? In Lindbergh vs. Roosevelt, author James Duffy tackles these questions head-on, by examining the conflicting personalities, aspirations, and actions of Franklin D. Roosevelt and Charles A. Lindbergh.

So let's rehash what we don't like about FDR...really? He was human.. He made mistakes. Just like the rest of us. Yet history shows that he was exactly the President we needed to guide us through World War II. Just imagine where we would be if we had lost that war. Skip this book--you've heard it all before.

No one has ever been in a position to see the presidents, and the presidency, so intimately, over so many years. They called him in for photo opportunities. They called for comfort. They asked about death and salvation; about sin and forgiveness. At a time when the nation is increasingly split over the place of religion in public life, The Preacher and the Presidents reveals how the world's most powerful men and world's most famous evangelist, Billy Graham, knit faith and politics together.

Would you try another book from Nancy Gibbs and Michael Duffy and/or L. J. Ganser?

    No

Would you ever listen to anything by Nancy Gibbs and Michael Duffy again?

Not if I remember their names--which I'd prefer to forget

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

    It's well told.

    Any additional comments?

Your description should have warned a liberal that this book is full of veiled Republican propaganda. Billy Graham may have tried to be neutral with the Democrats, but the writers sure weren't. I felt like I'd been duped into a massive waste of my time. I'm a strong Christian--just in case you wondered. Yes, there are strong Christians in the Democratic Party--we just believe, like the new Pope: that you see the strength of that commitment by how people treat those who are not as fortunate as they are. That was what Jesus taught.

Sgt. Don Malarkey takes us not only into the battles fought from Normandy to Germany, but into the heart and mind of a soldier who beat the odds to become an elite paratrooper and lost his best friend during the nightmarish engagement at Bastogne. Drafted in 1942, Malarkey arrived at Taccoa Camp in Georgia and was the one in six soldiers who earned their Eagle wings.

Rex says: "Really Rounds out Band of Brothers"
    "War is worse then hell."
    Overall

This book gives rich detail on being a Private joining the Army. Training to be a paratrooper, actually going to war and fighting to get back to the Airborne units after D-Day and freezing in the Battle of the Bulge--all these experiences made me wonder why we go to war in the first place. To say "war is hell" is a oomplete understatement--made by a General.

Walker & Daughter is Georgia Walker's little yarn shop, tucked into a quiet storefront on Manhattan's Upper West Side. The Friday Night Knitting Club is the ad hoc creation of some of Georgia's regulars, who stroll into the shop looking for tips on knitting and end up finding much, much more. Once a week, they gather to work on their latest projects and to chat - and occasionally clash - over their stories of love, life, and everything in between.

This is a fun read. Character development is strong, insiteful and imaginative. Whether or not you knit, it's enjoyable to read. I found I couldn't wait to get back to it each time I had to put it down.
