"Loved It"
I absolutely love these books. I've only listened to the two released on Audible, but after this one, I think I'll have to purchase the other books from Amazon and actually read....The narrator is very good as well in my opinion, I wish she read more of these types of books, her voice is pleasant and smooth, almost calming. She does a male voice very well, unlike other narrators that tend to growl the male parts. A very good listen. If you're a fan of Lisa Kleypas or Julie Garwood historicals, you be pleased with this purchase.
"Ok...nothing memorable IMHO"
This book was just ok for me. My favorite chick lit novelists are Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Jennifer Crusie, and Sophie Kinsella, all much better authors and more adept a writing funny contemporary romance novels. This is the authors’ first book, so she may grow into a better author and I may give her another shot down the road. The big problem I had with the book was it was too verbose. I love reading background tidbits about the characters, if it gives me a peek into their true self or helps me understand why they act a certain way. Much of the writing in this book was just frivolous filler. You knew who the characters were after the first couple of chapters, with an additional peek into their psyche scattered here and there; much of the in between was just blather that could have been taken out. I did like the characters and I was glad they got their HOA, but I will not remember them after a few weeks and I will never want to listen to this book again. The narrator did a decent job. I guess where this book is concerned I am ambivalent.
"Sweet Romance"
It's nice once in awhile to have the hero and heroine admit they love each other early on in the book...there is no , he loves her but won't admit it...she loves him but can't admit it. A nice change of pace for me in a romance. There is still the very present question, "will their love be enough to hold then together?" That will keep you listening. Not too fond of the narrator, she's not the worst I've heard, but sort of monotone and a bit boring at times (that did not deter me from buying the 2nd book in the series). If your fond of those hunky sexy highlander alphamales as your hero, you'll probably endjoy this book.
"Boring and Stupid"
I'm usually not so brutal in my reviews, but I can't find anything good to say about this book. It's boring and just plain ol' stupid. The actions of the 'hillbillies' sounds like this book should have been set about 50 or 60 years ago, but it's present day (at least within the last 10 years or so...). I thought this would be a sweet christmas romance, but by the end of the book, I so hated it, I didn't care about any of the characters or a HEA. The narrator was not very good, which added to the dislike of the book overall. The most annoying thing however, has got to be the fact that music is played at the beginning and ending of each chapter...that's right EACH chapter not just the end of the book...ugh!
