Time has passed since the apprentice and his master, Will and Halt, led the Araluens to victory against invaders, and Will is now a full-fledged Ranger with his own fief to look after. The fief seems sleepy - boring, even - until the king is poisoned. Joined by his friend Alyss, Will is thrown headfirst into an extraordinary adventure propelled by fears of sorcery, and must determine who is trustworthy to the king and who is trying to take his throne.

The storyline was quite good. John Flanagan is still quite on his game. The characters develop more throughout each book. Will is really coming into his own, and it is interesting watching him develop throughout the series. However, as others have stated, the narrator just did not work for this story. Maybe it is because I am so used to hearing John Keating read the story. Stuart Blinder may have work quite well for other stories. He has a voice more for classical or romances. His voice was just too mellow and sleepy to narrate an adventure. I had a hard time making it through this reading.

For a thousand years the ash fell and no flowers bloomed. For a thousand years the Skaa slaved in misery and lived in fear. For a thousand years the Lord Ruler, the "Sliver of Infinity," reigned with absolute power and ultimate terror, divinely invincible. Then, when hope was so long lost that not even its memory remained, a terribly scarred, heart-broken half-Skaa rediscovered it in the depths of the Lord Ruler's most hellish prison.

    "Excellent choice"
    Overall

I am a huge fan of the Wheel of Time series. When I found out that Brandon Sanderson would be picking up where Jordan left off, I figured I better check him out. I had never heard of Mistborn, and I wasn't expecting much. After the first book, my husband and I were both hooked. This is an excellent series. The concepts are very original. The characters were likable, and it was easy to connect with them. The storyline has you trying to think ahead the entire way. We could not wait to get the rest of the series. Kramer was a perfect choice for the narration. This entire series is credit worthy.
