Judas Coyne is a collector of the macabre. But nothing he possesses is as unlikely or as dreadful as his latest discovery, a thing so terrible-strange, Jude can't help but reach for his wallet. For a thousand dollars, Jude will become the proud owner of a dead man's suit, said to be haunted by a restless spirit. But what UPS delivers to his door in a black heart-shaped box is no imaginary or metaphorical ghost. It's the real thing.

Lesley says: "Yikes! Five stars for fright"
    "Didn't gel"
    Overall

I tried to be open-minded, and I did finish the entire book, but I just could not relate to the author's style. It seemed brutal in parts - perhaps that's the real life of former rock stars and vengful ghosts, but it didn't gel with me. Something was amiss, and I cannot put my finger on it. I do not recommend this audio book.

  • A Prayer for Owen Meany

    • UNABRIDGED (26 hrs and 53 mins)

Of all of John Irving's books, this is the one that lends itself best to audio. In print, Owen Meany's dialogue is set in capital letters; for this production, Irving himself selected Joe Barrett to deliver Meany's difficult voice as intended. In the summer of 1953, two 11-year-old boys – best friends – are playing in a Little League baseball game in Gravesend, New Hampshire. One of the boys hits a foul ball that kills the other boy's mother. The boy who hits the ball doesn't believe in accidents; Owen Meany believes he is God's instrument. What happens to Owen after that 1953 foul ball is extraordinary and terrifying.

    Alan says: "Outstanding"

I was reluctant, but once I became invested in the book - after a couple hours, I could not stop listening. I recommend this audio book.

  • The Prince of Tides

Spanning 40 years, this is the story of turbulent Tom Wingo, his gifted and troubled twin sister Savannah, and their struggle to triumph over the dark and tragic legacy of the extraordinary family into which they were born.

Ella says: "A "Prince" amongst novels"
    "Very good - highly recommend"
    Overall

First, Frank Muller was a great narrator - the world has lost a real treasure.
Second, the story line is riveting. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and will recommend it to others. As I listened, I could not imagine what happened in this seemingly average dysfunctional family. In true Pat Conroy style, he leads you through the details and entertains you along the way. When you understand the events - all the events of the Wingo family, then you see clearly why so many challenges plague the main character, Tom, and his sister, Savannah.

Why we think it’s a great listen: The most celebrated performance in all of Audible’s history, The Help has nearly 2,000 5-star reviews from your fellow listeners. We hear the print book’s not bad, either. In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women - mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends - view one another.

Jan says: "What a great surprise!"
"So glad I took a chance on this one!"

So very entertaining! Highly recommend this download. Enjoyed every minute. You will love how this is relatable - even today. I laughed and cried - sometimes at the same time.
