Kaylee just wants to enjoy having caught the attention of the hottest guy in school. But a normal date is hard to come by when Nash seems to know more about her need to scream than she does. And when classmates start dropping dead for no apparent reason, only Kaylee knows who'll be next.

    Overall

thanks to some unique plot elements, and a compelling heroine - I'm not normally a fan of first-person POV, but I really enjoyed this story. Kaylee wrestles with some real emotions and difficulties without crossing into whining, and her sense of humor provides a great contrast to the darker elements of the story.

    Looking forward to the sequel!

The impossible has been accomplished. The Lord Ruler - the man who claimed to be god incarnate and brutally ruled the world for a thousand years - has been vanquished. But Kelsier, the hero who masterminded that triumph, is dead too, and now the awesome task of building a new world has been left to his young protégé, Vin, the former street urchin who is now the most powerful Mistborn in the land, and to the idealistic young nobleman she loves.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Well of Ascension to be better than the print version?

I have not read the print version, so cannot answer this.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Vin - a strong female lead with a unique moral code, she's predictably unpredictable, and I enjoyed her evolution.

What does Michael Kramer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

As always, Kramer enhances the story and never detracts from it. One of my favorite narrators.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

When everything you thought you knew turns out to be a lie, how will you know what's right?

    Any additional comments?

A different ending than I expected, but it felt logical and right. I LOVED the magical twists in this book...never saw them coming.

(Now excuse me while I get a kleenex...*sniff*)

Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter. It has been centuries since the fall of the ten consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor.

Would you listen to The Way of Kings again? Why?

YES! Absolutely; despite being an admittedly long book, I was so involved in the story and invested in the characters that I didn't want it to end.

What did you like best about this story?

Kaladin, without a doubt. Flawed and strong, and very well developed throughout the story. You don't just see his character evolve - you feel like you're along for the ride.

What does Kate Reading and Michael Kramer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I'm a big fan of Kramer's narrations, he brings life to the character's voices without going over the top. Kate Reading is new to me, but I enjoyed her version of Shellan, and she does a decent job with the male character's voices as well.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes - which presented a problem, as it would have required two days of my life doing nothing but listening! As it was, I listened over the course of a week, during which I became extremely antisocial and grumpy whenever I wasn't listening...

    Any additional comments?

The "interludes" were annoying at times, because I resented being taken away from Kaladin. (I'd have happily spent the whole novel in his POV...although I did come to enjoy Dalinar, Adolin and Shellan as well.) However, rest assured that these interludes/short stories DO connect to the plot eventually...some of them at least, and that makes me curious to see what happens in future installments in this series.

For a thousand years the ash fell and no flowers bloomed. For a thousand years the Skaa slaved in misery and lived in fear. For a thousand years the Lord Ruler, the "Sliver of Infinity," reigned with absolute power and ultimate terror, divinely invincible. Then, when hope was so long lost that not even its memory remained, a terribly scarred, heart-broken half-Skaa rediscovered it in the depths of the Lord Ruler's most hellish prison.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely! Great blend of character development, ACTION, and intricate worldbuilding.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Final Empire?

The fight sequences towards the end of the story - I had to stay up late listening!

Have you listened to any of Michael Kramer’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I've never listened to a Kramer narration before, but I enjoyed it! His style isn't overly dramatic, but he brings good depth and distinction to the character voices. Very enjoyable to listen to.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Laughed more than once, and teared up a bit towards the end. Sanderson's writing draws out the reader's emotions, but the story doesn't feel melodramatic or overdone. The emotional struggles of the characters continue to resonate after the book is finished.

    Any additional comments?

I was downloading the second book in the series within five minutes of finishing this one! Great story, and excellent listening value for a single credit, too.

With indifferent parents, Iona Sheehan grew up craving devotion and acceptance. From her maternal grandmother, she learned where to find both: a land of lush forests, dazzling lakes, and centuries-old legends. Ireland. County Mayo, to be exact. Where her ancestors’ blood and magic have flowed through generations - and where her destiny awaits.

Would you try another book from Nora Roberts and/or Katherine Kellgren?

Yes - at least the next in this trilogy.

What did you like best about this story?

Nora's taken her classic "trilogy" formula of 3 plus 3 and given it a nice little twist. I enjoyed this cast of characters a lot - lots of snark and heart.

What three words best describe Katherine Kellgren’s voice?

    Smooth, rich, warm.

Was Dark Witch worth the listening time?

Absolutely! I was hesitant because I have been disappointed by the last few Nora novels I've read, but this one is worth the credit. The darker feel of this story reminds me of Nora's Sign of Seven series - if you loved that one, then this is certainly worth the listen!

    Any additional comments?

There's a LONG prologue for this story, so be warned. I almost stopped listening because I thought I'd accidentally bought a period novel...rest assured, it's just a lengthy setting-up of the back story. Things improved substantially after the "real" story started.

Another great story by Patricia Briggs. I had high hopes for this sequel to Cry Wolf, and am not disappointed. The plot twists and turns, and the fascinating relationship between Anna and Charles continues to evolve - never a dull moment!

Another excellent narration by Holter Graham as well - the unique voices and accents of the multiple characters are really brought to life.

Anna never knew werewolves existed until the night she survived a violent attack...and became one herself. After three years at the bottom of the pack, she'd learned to keep her head down and never, ever trust dominant males. But Anna is that rarest kind of werewolf: an Omega. And one of the most powerful werewolves in the country will recognize her value as a pack member - and as his mate.

The story is intriguing, the relationship between the primary characters is engaging and a compelling component of the plot - but NOT the only plot; there's lots of action and suspense here too.

Good world-building, and interesting secondary characters. Definitely worth a listen. (Or more than one!)
