Sangamon Taylor's a New Age Sam Spade who sports a wet suit instead of a trench coat and prefers Jolt to Scotch. He knows about chemical sludge the way he knows about evil -- all too intimately. And the toxic trail he follows leads to some high and foul places.

This story makes you more aware of the dangers we unwittingly face with corporations that do pretty much whatever they like. I only hope we have a chance. Neal Stephenson has delivered again.

Even for a charismatic pirate, three years is a long time to chase after an unimaginable treasure hidden in the ruins of an ancient city. But when the fabled riches turn out to be virtually worthless, the outraged crew mutinies and leaves their former captain for dead. He is rescued by a mysterious king and transported back to a time of dwarves, druids, and fairies. Enchanting as it is, though, his only wish is to return home and find justice - but only the king has the power to return him...for a price.

After reading some realistic and grim stories I needed to lighten things up a bit. This book fit the bill nicely. Narrator was very good too. I do agree that this book seems to be book 2.

With this title you can guess what to expect. I really enjoyed the narration also.

    Spoiler alert
I was a bit disappointed that Mrs Bennet didn't get eaten by zombies and I was really hoping that Mr Collins came to a different end. I was sure this would be highly entertaining but I got enough laughs.

Herman Wouk's sweeping epic of World War II stands as the crowning achievement of one of America's most celebrated storytellers. Like no other books about the war, Wouk's spellbinding narrative captures the tide of global events - and all the drama, romance, heroism, and tragedy of World War II - as it immerses us in the lives of a single American family drawn into the very center of the war's maelstrom.

My only problem is with the American women. Why are they made out to be so shallow? I seem to find that in a lot of books ( Vince Flynn for e.g.) extremely annoying. It makes me wonder why the strong men have these women in tow. Is it to make them look good? Do they really need this?
Apart from that the book was excellent.

It falls to Lord Ingrey kin Wilfcliff to transport the prince to his burial place and to bring the accused killer, Lady Ijada, to judgment. The road he travels with his burden and his prisoner is fraught with danger. But in the midst of political chaos, magic has the fiercer hold on Ingrey's destiny, and Ijada herself may turn out to be the only one he dares trust.

I was a bit cautious after reading the poor reviews but I thought to myself it seemed very unlikely Lois could write a ho hum book. I really enjoyed it and had no problems with the narration. The Hallowed Hunt contains all the twists and turns I expect from this wonderful story teller.

This is an enjoyable series, well written and narrated. Initially I was wary of the modelling on Patrick O'Briens series but I have absolutely no complaints and I am happily working my way through all David Drake's stories. It's a delight to find a great storyteller.

It's one of the most dangerous and volatile countries in the world: Yemen. A Middle Eastern hotbed of corruption and insurgency and the perfect training ground for Islamic terrorists. When FBI agents John Corey and Kate Mayfield are assigned to overseas posts in Sana'a, Yemen's capital city, they are tasked with hunting down a high-ranking Al Qaeda operative.

Five days after Owen Zastava Pitt pushed his insufferable boss out of a 14th story window, he woke up in the hospital with a scarred face, an unbelievable memory, and a job offer. It turns out that monsters are real. All the things from myth, legend, and B-movies are out there, waiting in the shadows. Some of them are evil, and some are just hungry. Monster Hunter International is the premier eradication company in the business. And now Owen is their newest recruit.

I used to think authors just put zombies into the story because they couldn't think of anything else to do. I had to rethink that one. I loved the humour and imagination of this series so much that I recommended it to my mother (she just had her 70th birthday). We didn't know there is such a monster problem and we are now watching some of our neighbours closely. Lots of furious fun.

Monsters are roaming the streets of London. Of course, some monsters are scarier than others: Unicorns? No bother. Vampires? Big deal. Werewolves? Ho hum. Lawyers? … Aaargh! Duncan's boss doesn't think that he's cut out to be a lawyer. He isn’t a pack animal. He lacks the killer instinct. But when his best friend from school barges his way back into Duncan’s life, with a full supporting cast of lawyers, ex-wives, zombies and snow-white unicorns, it’s not long before things become distinctly unsettling.

In this world of bribes, vendettas and swindling, in which heiresses are gambled and won, Trollope's characters embody all the vices: Lady Carbury is 'false from head to foot'; her son Felix has 'the instincts of a horse, not approaching the higher sympathies of a dog'; and Melmotte - the colossal figure who dominates the book - is a 'horrid, big, rich scoundrel... a bloated swindler... a vile city ruffian'.
