Captain John "Black Jack" Geary's legendary exploits are known to every schoolchild. Revered for his heroic "last stand" in the early days of the war, he was presumed dead. But a century later, Geary miraculously returns from survival hibernation and reluctantly takes command of the Alliance fleet as it faces annihilation by the Syndics.

Appalled by the hero-worship around him, Geary is nevertheless a man who will do his duty. And he knows that bringing the stolen Syndic hypernet key safely home is the Alliance's one chance to win the war. But to do that, Geary will have to live up to the impossibly heroic "Black Jack" legend.

    "Frustrating series."
    Overall

The overall series is ok but the author repeats himself constantly. Did I mention that he repeats himself. Each and EVERY book he retells the entire story from the beginning. That means that the first book is good and each one afterwords gets more frustrating. If he had cut out the repetitive parts the series would be much better and more cohesive.

The other thing about the series that I don't like is the way that the author wrote the 2 main female characters. They are uninspiring and many times I wanted to smack the author for the things that they said to the main character. I was at first glad to hear that the author had a female character in a strong role. But the bickering and in-fighting between the leads was horrible.

The reader is a good one.

The Reader of this copy of the story is horrible. He is so choppy and horrible that I couldn't finish listening to the story. Do a search for the name of the book and try the other narrator as he can only be better. This narrator is choppy and reminds me of a grade schooler trying to read a story. his voices are aweful other than John Carters voice. choppy and horrible.

The story on the other hand is a classic and wonderful story. well worth it too bad the narrator ruined it.

Whitney MacAllister has all the wealth, power, and beauty anyone could ever wish for, and is therefore profoundly bored. Enter Douglas Lord, a good-looking, street-smart thief, who brings Whitney into his world of high adventure and murderous rivals. They come to a business agreement: Whitney will bankroll Douglas on an expedition to retrieve the legendary lost treasure of a long-dead Madagascar queen; in exchange, Whitney will get to come along and keep half the money once they have gained their prize.

I just finished this book and thought that it was wonderful. The interplay between the characters was unique and yet classic. The adventures that they got into was great and the tension between them lasted to the end.

Dr. Temperance Brennan looks forward to her first vacation in years. She's almost out the door when the bones start appearing. Most puzzling of all are the bones discovered at a remote farm outside Charlotte. The remains seem to be of animal origin, but Tempe is shocked when she gets them to her lab. Why are the X rays and DNA so perplexing? Who is trying to keep Tempe from the answers? Someone is following her, and must be stopped before it's too late.

I really enjoyed Grave Secrets and Deja Dead. This one is not up the the previous standards. I was constantly confused and the ending I felt was anti-climactic. I felt that much of the storyline was contrived and boring. I hope the future books of hers are better.
