On Pensacola Beach, the Coast Guard prepares for a Category 5 hurricane that has entered the Gulf of Mexico. When the air crew patrols the waterways, they spot a huge fishing cooler about a mile offshore. Drug traffickers have been known to dump coolers with smuggled product to avoid detection and pay fishermen to retrieve them. But when the crew open this cooler, they’re shocked by what they find: body parts tightly wrapped in plastic.

Given the importance of what they do, and the controversies that often surround them, and the violent people they sometimes confront, it is remarkable that in the history of this country only four active federal judges have been murdered. Judge Raymond Fawcett has just become number five.... Nothing is as it seems and everything’s fair game in this wickedly clever new novel from John Grisham, the undisputed master of the legal thriller.

What did you love best about The Racketeer?

Sucked me in from the first page and kept me interested

What does J.D. Jackson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I listen while on road trips with my husband.....so it passes the time very nicely.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

not really......not like some of Grisham's other works

    Any additional comments?

Hope he keeps pumping these out...love the legal stuff he writes about.

Killing Pablo is the inside story of the brutal rise and violent fall of Colombian cocaine cartel kingpin Pablo Escobar. Also from Bowden: the best selling Black Hawk Down.

Her name was Henrietta Lacks, but scientists know her as HeLa. She was a poor Southern tobacco farmer who worked the same land as her slave ancestors, yet her cells, taken without her knowledge, became one of the most important tools in medicine. The first immortal human cells grown in culture, they are still alive today, though she has been dead for more than 60 years.

Absolutely spell binding, informative and extremely well done. I am not in least interested in science, however this story was told in an easy to understand and compassionate format. The author and readers were excellent. Very enjoyable and enlightening about the world of medical research and what life was like in Maryland in the 2nd half of the 20th century and into the 21st.
