  • I Don't Know How She Does It: The Life of Kate Reddy, Working Mother

    • ABRIDGED (6 hrs and 7 mins)
    • By Allison Pearson
    • Narrated By Emma Fielding

The surprise hit of the year, Allison Pearson's debut novel is garnering critical and fan raves. Publishers Weekly calls I Don't Know How She Does It "delightfully fast moving...with dozens of laugh-aloud moments and many tenderly touching ones," and Booklist applauds this "compelling manifesto on the plight of working mothers that manages to be both angry and funny."

A User says: "I Don't Know How She Does It"
"I want my book credit back."

I was so excited after reading the reviews that I bought this to take on a trip. After trying to listen for miles, and miles, I finally decided to drive in silence. It was tough to listen to and the story just saddened me.

  • A Million Little Pieces

    • ABRIDGED (10 hrs and 6 mins)
    • By James Frey
    • Narrated By Oliver Wyman

By the time James Frey enters a drug and alcohol treatment facility, he has so thoroughly ravaged his body that the doctors are shocked he is still alive. Inside the clinic, he is surrounded by patients as troubled as he: a judge, a mobster, a former world-champion boxer, and a fragile former prostitute. To James, their friendship and advice seem stronger and truer than the clinic's droning dogma of How to Recover.

    Heath says: "Great Book"
    "Powerful and disturbing"

My sister and I both picked up this book Friday around dinner time and both finished late Saturday. This story is different and compelled these two very different sisters to listen while our weekends went flying by. I knew the end, but I couldn't put it down. I was very happy that the author never "sold out" and just went along with the easier road. I highly recommend it, but it is disturbing, perhaps because of the intimate way this story touches each of us.

  • Dance of Death

    • UNABRIDGED (16 hrs and 55 mins)
    • By Douglas Preston, Lincoln Child
    • Narrated By Scott Brick

Agent Pendergast has become one of crime fiction's most endearing characters. His greatest enemy is one who has stalked him all of his life, his cunning and diabolical brother Diogenes. And Diogenes has thrown down the gauntlet. Now, several of the people closest to Pendergast are viciously murdered, and Pendergast is framed for the deeds. On the run from federal authorities, with only the help of his old friend NYPD Lieutenant Vincent D'Agosta, Pendergast must stop his brother.

Lu says: "Need to read earlier books in series"
"The authors have done it again!!"

I am so excited - I have rearranged my day to be able to get more listening time in! This book picks up and runs!

  • Leaping Beauty

    • UNABRIDGED (3 hrs and 11 mins)
    • By Gregory Maguire
    • Narrated By Gregory Maguire
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Who better to wreak havoc with eight beloved fairy tales than Gregory Maguire, the brilliant, funny, and nationally best-selling author of the adult novel Wicked as well as the hilarious middle-grade series The Hamlet Chronicles.

    Winifred says: "Wonderful and fun"
    "Wonderful and fun"

Our whole family loved this book. We have now adopted some of the expressions, "So What". The only negative is that the book ended.

  • Eragon: The Inheritance Cycle, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (16 hrs and 21 mins)
    • By Christopher Paolini
    • Narrated By Gerard Doyle
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

When Eragon finds a polished blue stone in the forest, he thinks it is the lucky discovery of a poor farm boy; perhaps it will buy his family meat for the winter. But when the stone brings a dragon hatchling, Eragon realizes he has stumbled upon a legacy nearly as old as the Empire itself.

    Sandra says: "Utterly Awesome!"
"Harry Potter + the Lord of the Rings = Eragon"

I loved Eragon and think it's wonderfully original. You are left with the feeling that you know these characters and want to know more. We are waiting for the second book.

    "Brilliant and funny!"

A great adventure for the whole family. We enjoyed the wonderful narration and dry sense of humour thoughout this tale. This book will be one that we listen to again and again.

  • Lost Light: Harry Bosch Series, Book 9

    • UNABRIDGED (10 hrs and 4 mins)
    • By Michael Connelly
    • Narrated By Len Cariou

Four years ago, LAPD detective Harry Bosch was on a movie set, asking questions about the murder of a young production assistant, when an armored car arrived with $2 million cash for use in a heist scene. In a life-imitates-art firestorm, a gang of masked men converged on the delivery and robbed the armored car with guns blazing. The crime was never resolved, and the young woman's murder was in the stack of unsolved-case files Bosch carried home the night he left the LAPD.

    Harris says: "Dashel Hammet Redux"
    "A great adventure!"

This was my first Harry Bosch book and now I have to find all of the others. I think the narrator does great justice to the characters.

  • The Spiderwick Chronicles, Volume I: Books 1 & 2

    • UNABRIDGED (2 hrs and 8 mins)
    • By Tony DiTerlizzi, Holly Black
    • Narrated By Mark Hamill

Less than half a year ago, Tony and I received a mysterious note from Jared, Simon, and Mallory Grace, three children who have experienced authentic encounters with the beings we call faeries. As hard as it was for us to believe, we came to see that there was no alternative explanation. Now, putting aside personal concerns, we bring their stories to you.

    Don says: "Excellent!"
    "Great family drama!"

It's nice to find a story (or two) that the whole family can enjoy in the car. The stories are short and lively. Now the kids want to read the rest of the chronicles!
