Early one morning in 1754, the stillness of Charlestown, New Hampshire, is shattered by shrill war whoops and the terror of an Indian raid. Young Miriam Willard, on a day which had promised new happiness, finds herself instead a captive on a forest trail, caught up in the ebb and flow of the French and Indian War.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

yes- it is exciting! Gives a glimpse into the life of captives-- shows how different personalities rise to meet daunting situations

    Which scene was your favorite?

the scene where Susannah gets her children back

    Any additional comments?

The story was thought provoking and enjoyable--- but the ending was so abrupt that it made you wonder if the writer had left it unfinished for a while-- and then came back to the story just wanting to 'get it done and published, already!"

It's Valentine's Day on the ranch but bachelor-cowboy Slim Chance doesn't know it. Sally May tells him to forget about the cows and "Go to town and buy a nice gift for Miss Viola!" Slim hates to shop, but he goes to town (with the dogs, of course) and buys a nice box of candy for Miss Viola. But on the way to Viola's house, Hank and Drover take an interest in the candy and...will there be a Happy Valentine's Day on the ranch? Slim sings a bachelor's opinion in his "Valentine's Song."

Yes, all the Hank the Cowdog stories are funny and clean and enjoyable by adults as well as children--

Who was your favorite character and why?

Hank is my favorite- he thinks he's so smart-- but it's clear that he is 'deluded'

Have you listened to any of John R. Erickson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is one of his short stories-- but all of them are entertaining and light

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed! Hank stories are great 'escapes' from the problems of a day! A little laughter helps keep our outlook bright!

Loper and Sally May have left Slim to manage the ranch while they go off to visit the relatives for the holidays. But just when it begins to look like another boring bachelor Christmas with Slim, a storm blows in and the electric fence seperating a herd of steer from the highway shorts out. Now, it's up to Slim, Viola, and the ranch's Security Division to jump into action! Things take a surprising twist when Slim comes down with a burning fever in the middle of the operation, but nobody, and especially not Miss Viola could have been ready for the even bigger surprise that transpires on the way to the hospital!
