The narrating style of Charlton Griffin is perfect for this most famous work by Tennyson. He reads with tasteful flair. I especially enjoyed "Merlin and Vivien."
This remains one of my favorite audiobooks of all time. I have listened to it at least five times. Each time upon finishing it, I wish to sit down and have a good cry. The narration by Jeremy Irons is exquisite. It is a performance worthy of Nabokov's writing.
Charlton Griffin narrates these short stories by W. Somerset Maugham with a keen sense for each character's delivery. Griffin's love of this author shines through his Audio Connoisseur recording.
To listen to these works is to be transported to the Pacific Islands and various ports in Asia. Maugham spent much of his life in this part of the world. He found the mixture of cultures there in the early 20th Century to be fascinating, absurd, tragic and mysterious. One can never predict how the typical Westerner will react to the pressures of such strange, tropical surroundings. Maugham made much of this, but never went for the simple surprise ending in his short stories. Many of these works are quite disturbing in their portrayal of the moral weakness of Westerners when immersed in the seeming anonymity of the Tropics.
This is a great production of Conrad's Secret Agent by Audio Connoisseur, Charlton Griffin narrating. It includes an introduction by a living relative of the author.
This classic novel is brought to life by the talents of Charlton Griffin, whose Audio Connoisseur productions are always a pleasure. The high style and wit are played upon perfectly.
This novel made me think of both Voltaire and Mark Twain with its satire of societal conceptions of wisdom and virtue. Fielding also reminds me of Dickens, though he is far less shy about discussing sex. I think this book is underappreciated by most readers only because they never get to reading it.
Charlton Griffin is my "go to" man for the classics. He can deliver the haughtiness of Zeus and the self-loathing of Helen.
This is another great title in the Audio Connoisseur catalog.
If you haven't tried any of Charlton Griffin's productions for Audio Connoisseur, released through Audible, treat yourself to his reading of this classic Dickens novel. The many characters of the novel are brought to life masterfully.
Charlton Griffin's love of Maugham's "Of Human Bondage" comes through in this masterful reading of the novel.
Classical history buffs, now you have no excuse for never having read Caesar's Commentaries; Charlton Griffin delivers another top performance in his narration of unabridged classics.
This isn't on a par with his Aeneid, but for those interested in hard-to-find classics audiobooks, Virgil's Georgics is a must. Narrator Charlton Griffin is always a pleasure to hear.
