I'm a huge fan of sci-fi and fantasy, and this series has not disappointed. I was a little hesitant in starting the series since it's marketed as "young adult" (and I was basing my young adult reading experience on the twilight series- which I found tiresome), but I found the Hunger Games to be well-written, intelligent and incredibly enjoyable. I also really enjoyed the narrator. I'm almost finished with the third and final book in the series and all have been great.
Funny; Simple; Classic
It's a classic story that is the perfect length for my three year old. Stuart Binder does a great job - it's the perfect tone for small children and keeps them engaged.
My daughter asks for this each time we get in the car. She can also recite the entire book by memory. Not just the book, but the tone and inflections that Stuart Binder gives in his performance.
It was a very enjoyable story, with a good performance. It was uncomplicated, and kept me entertained throughout the entire book.
Hands down - Georgie.
Overall, I liked the story and the concept, but it was so slow. And predictable. I like to listen to books when I run, walk and work out on the elliptical, and I prefer books that are faster paced. But, it wasn't a bad book, just not one of my favorites.
It took me a while to get through this book, but after the half-way mark, I was hooked. It was very scary and I loved this take on the vampire lore. I literally ran to my house and fumbled with the lock after listening to a particularly scary part on my drive home late one night. I will definitely recommend it to friends, and now I can't wait to see both movies. I have heard that the Swedish film is the best. And I do believe that the Swedish backdrop is a very important character in the novel, so I'll be interested to see the American take.
My only issue is with the disturbing descriptions regarding child prostitution at the beginning of the novel. I think that could have been left out and the story would have been fine. And for those who haven't read it - it's more disturbing that "graphic"...which any conversation about child prostitution and pedophiles should be considered disturbing because it is wrong. Don't let this deter you from reading this otherwise excellent novel.
