Legendary college basketball coach John Wooden and Jay Carty know that when it comes down to it, success is an equal opportunity player. Anyone can create it in his or her career, family and beyond. Based on John Wooden’s own method to victory, Coach Wooden’s Pyramid of Success reveals that success is built block by block, where each block is a crucial principle contributing to life-long achievement in every area of life.

Really thought I was going to hear more words of wisdom from the Wizard but that was not the case. Yes you hear a little of what the Wiz says about each of his blocks then you hear a bunch of scripture and the actually passages. Not against the bible but that is not what I was expecting. The narrator gives each passage number as well. As famous as the Bible is I was not interested in hearing the narrator give how the passage fits the building block and the mortar. Made the book dry and less interesting.

Only gave it 3 stars because at least the blocks are given out with a bit of a reason as to why from the Wiz. Very tempted to have given it just 2 stars

  • The Five Dysfunctions of a Team: A Leadership Fable

In keeping with the parable style, Patrick Lencioni begins by telling the fable of a woman who, as CEO of a struggling Silicon Valley firm, took control of a dysfunctional executive committee and helped its members succeed as a team. Story time over, Lencioni offers explicit instructions for overcoming the human behavioral tendencies that he says corrupt teams. Succinct yet sympathetic, this guide will be a boon for those struggling with the inherent difficulties of leading a group.

I like the parable story method in describing the dysfunctions. You will hear the people described in the story and you will immediately say oh that's just like Bill in accounting etc

The actual hardness part of the book was going back to review the actual dysfunctions in a more dry method.

  • The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference

In The Tipping Point, New Yorker writer Malcolm Gladwell looks at why major changes in society happen suddenly and unexpectedly. Just as a single sick person can start an epidemic of the flu, so too can a few fare-beaters and graffiti artists fuel a subway crime wave, or a satisfied customer fill the empty tables of a new restaurant. These are social epidemics, and the moment when they take off, when they reach their critical mass, is the Tipping Point.

Classic, there is always more to a story. Nothing is quite as simple as everyone typically jump too, or the media jumps on. Malcolm gives a variety of examples and studies of this this. Yes sometimes it may feel a bit long till he finally gets back to his original point but it's because he delves into the detail.

In this stunning new book, Malcolm Gladwell takes us on an intellectual journey through the world of "outliers"--the best and the brightest, the most famous and the most successful. He asks the question: what makes high-achievers different? His answer is that we pay too much attention to what successful people are like, and too little attention to where they are from: that is, their culture, their family, their generation, and the idiosyncratic experiences of their upbringing.

I've always told others that usually there's more to the story about someones success then what appears. Malcolm finally proves that to be true. Though I have not bought in 100% on the cultural bias from far far back I do believe there is a cultural bias in many things.

I'm sure many people will state his findings as anecdotal, they are backed up with studies.
