I just never developed a connection to any of the characters. Listened to the whole thing, and by the end did not really care what happened to any of them.
I almost gave up, as it took listening to over 2/3 of the book before I finally cared about the characters in the book. Glad I listened to the whole thing and have already downloaded books 1.5 and 2 :)
I gave it 3 stars for the whole thing and would give 4 stars for the last bit.
Yes- I like to try to listen/read classics. This just did not capture my attention.
I feel a bit unsophisticated because this is the 2nd classic in a row I could not finish. I did not care about the characters and the story was not interesting enough to keep me listening although I did like Michael York as the narrator.
as it is a classic, but I could not make it to the end. Too much cave description, and whining by the narrator. Maybe one day I will finish it, but right now there are many other books to listen to in my library and on my wish list.
I did like Tim Curry as the reader. It took me a little while to get used to his accent, but after awhile I enjoyed him, and that is probably how I listened to over half of the story. He could differentiate voices between characters a little better- that is my only complaint about his style.
Although this book seemed a bit slow and boring in the beginning, by the end I wished there was more.
It would be wonderful if science and history were made this interesting children are in grade school.
I also learned to be grateful for the time we are given to live on this amazing, yet very precariously endangered planet.
