After a joyous honeymoon in Paris, Dexter is feeling pretty normal. But when a corpse is found displayed on a Miami beach, Dexter realizes another killer is on the loose.

"Nick Landrum doesn't read the next two...."

I had to post this comment here because I will NOT be purchasing the next two Dexter audiobooks. I have just found out that Jeff Lindsay is the reader.

For the record - I can't remember a book that is read by the author that I enjoyed (except Al Franken - he is the exception). I read all the negative reviews about Lindsay's performance but I still gave him the benefit of the doubt and tried the sample.

Oh My - what was he thinking? And why read another after the bad reviews on the first attempt?

I will not purchase unless another reader is slotted for them...

In an ancient tunnel underneath New York City a charnel house is discovered. Inside are 36 bodies all murdered and mutilated more than a century ago. While FBI agent Pendergast investigates the old crimes, identical killings start to terrorize the city. The nightmare has begun. Again.

Like the previous review - I had moved on with the Pendergast Series because Audible used to not offer this title. The four that come after this are excellent and I have become quite used to Scott Brick's performances - even better than Hill (my all time fav) & Colacci. Brick's "voice" of Pendergast is how I most think it might be.

I had finished the Diogenes trilogy when I found out that Cabinet was now offered. I started it and in chapter 2 I realized that Nora Kelly was in this novel and already referring to stuff that had happened in a previous work - Thunderhead. So, I immediately stopped and got that book and listened - also narrated by Scot Brick - Wonderful...

So that brings us back to Cabinet. I am sorry but I am not please with the reader here. I know a lot of it has to do with the fact that I have heard Brick's performances. I really wish I had read this book before the others. Marosz' voice is jsut a little to "sing song" for me. There is just something about it. I have never listened to a book on 2x (twice the speed) but I have done so with this, just so that I can finish it and move on to the rest of the Pendergast novels - which I have noticed will have a different narrator than Brick. I hope he's is as good.

If you are just starting out with the Pendergast novels and want more - I would suggest reading Thunderhead before this novel and then moving on in order. I am only interested in this title to pick up on some back story. The whole series gets better and better.

One other note - If I had listened to them in published order - I would have had a whole different opinion of Bill Smithback & Nora Kelly than I already had. My admiration for them both changed after going back and listening to Thunderhead...

Preston & Child are a great team of story tellers...

Two brutal murders and millions of missing dollars in the growing UN/Iraq oil-for-food scandal have led Castillo and his team to an estancia in Uruguay, where the man they seek is murdered right before their eyes. Who is responsible? Most likely, the people higher up in the dirty-money chain - those willing to risk anything to keep their secrets from being revealed.

Blah, Blah, Blah... The 1st Pres Agent book is very good - the 2nd is good enough. But - this 3rd in the series is a chore to listen to. Not because of Dick Hill - he is the greatest (why I gave performance 5 stars). I've still got a third left in the book and wanting it to end so badly - so I won't have to listen anymore.

There is way to much spent on the backstory from the previous 2 books. There is way over an hour just devoted to re-capping books 1 and 2.

And there is way too many times that characters in this book have conversations about things that have happened. I mean, just about every time Castillo talks to someone he has to get them caught up on events. Over and over - he has a 25 minute conversation about things that have happened. We know what has already happened!!! It's like Griffin was getting paid by the word. No new info is brought up and it does not move the story along. They just talk and talk and talk. Not enough actual action for me.

I found myself wishing that I got the Abridged version - until I looked it up. They only cut one hour off the time. So, it wouldn't have made much difference. I really don't think I will continue with the series. Which is a shame, because I really like the characters that Griffin came up with...
