At an exclusive school somewhere outside of Arlington, Virginia, students aren't taught history, geography, or mathematics - at least not in the usual ways. Instead, they are taught to persuade. Here the art of coercion has been raised to a science. Students harness the hidden power of language to manipulate the mind and learn to break down individuals by psychographic markers in order to take control of their thoughts. The very best will graduate as "poets": adept wielders of language who belong to a nameless organization that is as influential as it is secretive.

Max Barry is good at character development, but the whole premise of the book was not my cup of tea. Despite the plot line assuring the readers that the use of "words" to make people do things is not magic, I don't know what else you could call it. I was waiting for one of the characters to say something that turned someone into a rabbit. If you are not a fan of fantasy, don't buy this book. I want my 12 hours and 36 minutes back.

In the second book of the Star Force series, Kyle Riggs has another bad year. The Nano ships have a new mission--one that sentences their pilots to death. Meanwhile, the governments of Earth want to steal Star Force's Nano technology for their own. Worst of all, Earth has made a promise to the Macros, and the machines are coming to collect.

    What disappointed you about Extinction?

The first book was really good, but in this one, Kyle Riggs was a little too great. This guy does everything but leap tall buildings.

    Any additional comments?

I doubt that I will read anymore in this series.
