"Lisa Kleypas & Roslyn Landor are a dynamite team!"
Awesome heart-rending read!
I love all of Lisa Kleypas' books, but the Wallflowers series and the Hathaways series are truly amazing. The story made me laugh and cry and keep reading til I was done, then go onto the next in the series. Rosalyn Landor has the ability to make you feel that there are many readers, one for each character.
I specifically look for books that Rosalyn Landor narrates, she's really wonderful.
I'd recommend this entire series, but my all-time favorite Kleypas novel is Poppy Hathaway's story in the Hathaway series.
"Another good story with an excellent narrator"
The story is a little far-fetched, and the hero was a little slow figuring out how he felt, but it's worth the listen. I've read some of Anne Gracie's other novels, and this doesn't measure up to those. The narration was excellent. I am going to go find another Alison Larkin narrated book!
"Not one of her best."
This was OK, but I would recommend a different Stephanie Laurens novel. This was just fair. Simon Prebble did a good job on the narration, but the story was lacking.
"Liked this one a lot!"
I like this book, but didn't love it. I'd rather a Lorraine Heath book in this same genre. I am a fan of Anne Flosnik and always listen if she's the narrator. She did a great job as always. Still, I'd recommend it.
"I just discovered Ms Heath, and now I'm hooked!"
I thought this series was very interestingly based on the cast of Oliver! How clever to give it a subtle sense of that story.
Susan Erickson did a good job on the narration.
I can't wait to get the next Lorraine Heath audio book. What a great way to take a walk or work in the yard, and still get to hear a great story!
"Reminded me why I am a Julie Garwood fan!"
engossing, enticing, exciting
I loved when the heroine got to choose her groom.
Anne Flosnik did a great job on the narration, and as soon as I finish up the last few chapters, I'm going to get another Julie Garwood book to enjoy. It's been years since I first read this, but enjoyed it today as much as I did then - maybe even more with Anne Flosnik's narration.!
"Don't waste your time"
What a let down. I read a couple of reviews, and expected much better than I got. I don't recommend this. Make another choice.
"Hard to stop listening."
This was such a good story. The main character Lucien was flawed, yet so caring, fearless, and proves to be a good man despite his upbringing and his troubled past. The heroine Catherine was brave and willing to take on gossip and risk ruination of her reputation in order to protect her friend, asking Lucien for his help and accepting her attraction and feelings for the "devil earl". I loved Catherine's spunk and frankness in her conversations with Lucien.
This is my first listen to Susan Erickson and Antony Ferguson. I wasn't wild about Susan's voice in the beginning - I thought her male voice was hard to distinguish from her female voice. But, as the story continued, I grew accustomed to it, and she was good in every other way. Antony's voice was only used in very brief moments to recollect the past in Lucien's background - very minimal contribution.
I am now a fan of Lorraine Heath, and am going to read more of her novels!
"Not enough new material here..."
I am a fan of Jane Austen novels, and saw several versions of Pride and Prejudice, including the BBC 6-hour series which I thought was outstanding. This book did a good job of telling more of Mr. Darcy's story in an alternate circumstance, but much of the book was just a regurgitation of the original work. I thought that if Darcy and Elizabeth's story changed, then some of the other story line should change as well. I was disappointed.
The narrator was slightly better than fair. T he story was good, although not much new informaiton from the original work. So, if you've seen or read the original, there is very little new in this version. If I had to do it again I wouldn't give this a listen. However, if you've never read or seen the original, this story would be good. Not as it was originally written, but still good.
Hard to top the original.
"Unexpected read, but terrific listen."
John Pruden did a great job with the narration. When I listened to this story, I felt it was the author narrating rather than a narrator. Really good. I would listen to another of his reads based on this performance.
This is not my normal genre for books, but something in the book description caught my interest and I decided to listen. I instantly got engrossed in the story, finishing it very quickly. Chris Kyle said he wanted to write his story before someone else could, and he did it very well. The story had some tough listening points, but gave a seemingly honest and forthright story of the military, the brotherhood of soldiers, the chain of command, and the mental issues like PTSD that affect soldiers returning home. The story also took some time to jump back and forth to describe Chris' family life and visits home while on leave, and the difficulty he had at those times getting his head out of combat mode. I learned so much and it is a story I have recommended to many others. I would call this story one of my "must reads".
Shortly after I finished reading the book, I heard that the author Chris Kyle was shot to death here at home, by a soldier that Chris was counseling who suffered from post traumatic stress disorder. I was so sad that a good man who seemed to successfully re-integrate into family life after war was killed so suddenly.
"Perfect in every way"
My favorite author paired with my favorite narrator.
I loved the entire Hathaway series, and this was my second favorite of the four books. Poppy Hathaway's story was my favorite, but here her brother gets his chance at happiness.
Rosalyn Landor is exceptional, especially in this genre. She can change voices from male to female, sinister to light-hearted. She is just outstanding!
Read Poppy Hathaway's story before this if you can. The key characters are in her story, and that background will make this read even more enjoyable.
