I must confess that I gave up part way through the book. This is only the third book in many years of listening that I could not force myself to see through to the end. I really liked parts of the book but really disliked other parts. The chapter titled The Dream of Socrates was too much for me. It seemed to go on and on without saying anything that I cared about. The reason I think this would be better in book form is that then you could flip through and read parts of interest and ignore the other parts. Since I'm usually driving when listening to audio books, skipping through the book is not an option.

I really liked the first book of this series but after listening for hours without anything of substance happening, I decided to delete the book and move on to something else. Seeing all of the good reviews here, I imagine the book must get real good at some point, but I don't have enough free time to spend time listening to such a slow story.

I loved the first half of the book, but the second half was too weird.

Even when nothing much seems to be happening, Chabon's way of describing things is so entertaining that I can't help but like the book.

I thought the book was okay but liked half the chapters much better than the other half. Maybe Gaiman wrote half and Pratchett wrote the other half? I like all of the many things I've read by Gaiman and disliked the one thing I previously tried to read by Pratchett.

I tried listening to this on a plane and kept falling asleep. I don't know why, but I just could not get interested in it.

I only listen to 30 minutes a day in two 15 minute chunks. With my listening time so fragmented, this book seemed too complex for me to appreciate or understand.

I had a hard time following this book. A number of the characters had unusual names that all sounded the same to me. I usually only listen to only 30 minutes a day and became very confused as to who was doing what. I decided it was not worth my time to finish the book and quit long before the end.

I agree with some of the reviewers that the female voices are somewhat annoying. I didn't think this was the fault of the narrator but rather that much of the female dialog was whiny. My biggest problem was that I found the story to be boring and some of the characters unbelievable. I probably would have liked it better as a movie but not enough happened in the book for it to be worth 7+ hours of listening time.
