I enjoyed this new novel, but it did not end up being one of my favorites. I guess I was hoping for a little more of the sport/Olympic storyline than personal drama, but it is a novel after all! It was written and narrated very well. My ratings reflect how much I enjoy a particular book, and overall, Gold was not a bad way to spend my time and credit--
Ready Player One was the best Audible book I have listened to--probably ever! Strong praise, but totally honest. I am the mother of a child of the '80s, and am aware of the online gaming phenomenon, but know nothing more than that. I purchased it on a whim from a featured review in 2011 (before the free excerpt and solid ranking in the Tournament of Champions this year), and began listening on my daily commute and gym visits. The simple story, solid plot progression and the brilliant performance by Wil Wheaton kept me entertained for days--and I was sad when it came to an end. Books like this are why I have loved reading for many, many years. And thanks to Audible, and excellent productions such as this one, I continue to enjoy books--in all forms!
